COLUMBUS, Ohio – The USTA announced on Thursday that Ohio State national champions Robert Cash and JJ Tracy have received a main draw wildcard for this summer’s US Open.
The Buckeye duo earned their spot by winning the NCAA doubles title last week in Stillwater. In keeping with the push for the growth of American tennis, the USTA has typically granted wildcards to American NCAA singles and doubles champions.
“The pathway from college to professional tennis is as strong as ever, and these wild cards reflect the USTA’s continued commitment to supporting our top-performing American collegians at the NCAA Division I level," said USTA Player Development GM Martin Blackman.
Cash and Tracy’s win last week was a cap to a tremendous season. They teamed to win the season-opening ITA All-American Championship and would go on to post a 20-3 record this year. They were ranked in the top 5 all season and helped the top-ranked Buckeyes to an NCAA semifinal appearance as a team.
Individually, Cash finished his career with the most doubles wins in program history, 148. He passed the previous record of 139 earlier this spring and finished the year with an overall doubles mark of 35-7. The fifth-year senior from New Albany, Ohio was also a career-best 25-4 this season in singles and finishes his career with 228 career wins, which is top 10 in program history.
Tracy had a remarkable final season, finishing with a combined 77-12 record this year. He also earned singles All-America honors in addition to his doubles All-America honors. The Powell, Ohio native finished his career with 235 career victories, fifth-most in program history.
