COLUMBUS, Ohio – On Wednesday at Canadian Trials, Ohio State sophomore swimmer Alex Axon qualified for a spot on Team Canada for the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Axon won the 200 free with a personal-best time of 1:47.56, which earned him a spot on Canada's 800 free relay team for the Olympics. This is the second event Axon has won so far this week; he also won gold in the 400 free on Monday with a time of 3:50.10.
This will be Axon's first career appearance at the Olympics. Axon is the fourth Buckeye to qualify for the Olympics. Lena Hentschel (Germany) and Tomas Navikonis (Lithuania) secured spots for their countries at the World Championships on Doha, Qatar earlier this year.
Canadian Trials continue Thursday, May 16 through Sunday, May 19 in Toronto, Ontario.
