Buckeye Spotlight – May 15

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Week in and week out, Buckeye student-athletes raise the standard of excellence set at Ohio State, whether that be in competition, in the classroom or in the community. 'Buckeye Spotlight' recognizes student-athletes who had noteworthy accomplishments both in contests and beyond the box score.

Alex Axon | Men's Swimming & Diving | So. | Markham, Ontario

Alex Axon placed first in the 400 freestyle at the 2024 Canadian Olympic Trials on Monday.
He won with a time of 3:50.10, cutting five seconds off his prelims time of 3:55.66. His time was just four seconds short of the Olympic qualifying time of 3:46.78.
Canadian trials continue Tuesday, May14 through Sunday, May 19.

Robert Cash | Men's Tennis | Grad. | New Albany, Ohio

Robert Cash helped the Buckeyes defeat No. 15 Mississippi State last Saturday in the NCAA Super Regional Round, winning both his singles and doubles matches.
He teamed up with JJ Tracy to defeat the No. 11 ranked doubles team from MSU, 6-2, to help secure the doubles point.
He then dominated Roberto Ferrer Guimaraes 6-3, 6-2 in his singles match.
Cash is part of the No. 3 ranked doubles team and is a career-best 25-3 in singles this season.
Cash and the Buckeyes take on No. 8 Columbia in the NCAA Quarterfinals on Thursday in Stillwater, Okla.

Faith Choi | Women's Golf | Jr. | Frederick, Md.

Faith Choi was the top finisher for the Buckeyes at the NCAA Bryan Regional last week, tying for ninth place.
She carded a 54-hole score of 215 (-1) and shot a one-under 71 in both the second and third rounds.
Choi shot even par on 39 holes, which was the most among the Ohio State squad. She birdied eight holes.

Fatouma Conde | Women's Track & Field | Jr. | Ann Arbor, Mich.

Fatouma Conde won her first Big Ten individual championship this past weekend and also claimed a relay crown at the 2024 Big Ten Championships.
Conde won the 200m by running a personal-best time of 22.91 to place herself fifth on the program's all-time leaders list. She also had the fastest qualifying time (23.16) in the prelims.
Conde's first Big Ten title of the weekend came from the 4x100m relay. The squad ran a season-best 43.44 to rank fifth on the all-time leaders list.
Conde ran a season-best 11.43 in the 100m to finish seventh. She had the second-fastest qualifying time (11.45).
The relay squad now ranks 17th in the country and her 200m time ranks 25th nationally.

Marcus Hudgins | Men's Lacrosse | Sr. | Syracuse, N.Y.

Marcus Hudgins was drafted by the Philadelphia Waterdogs in the Premier Lacrosse League's 2024 College Draft last week.
Hudgins, who has earned two honorable mention All-America awards this year, led the Buckeyes with 22 caused turnovers in 2024. The mark is third-most in a season by a Buckeye.
A First Team All-Big Ten honoree, he started all 15 games and added a career-high 48 ground balls this season.
Hudgins is the sixth Buckeye to be picked in the PLL since the inception of the league in 2018.

Tristan Jankovics | Men's Swimming & Diving | So. | Guelph, Ontario

At Canadian Olympic Trials on Tuesday, Tristan Jankovics officially secured his place on Team Canada for the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Jankovics turned in an Olympic qualifying time of 4:11.74 in the 400 IM to earn his spot and win the event. It is his personal best time. He shaved four seconds off his prelims time of 4:15.68, which was the morning's top 400 IM time.
This will be Jankovics' first career appearance at the Olympics.

Mitchell Okuley | Baseball | Sr. | Powell, Ohio

Mitchell Okuley helped the Buckeyes to a 3-1 week last week, batting .500 over four games.
He had seven total hits and had two hits in three out of four games.
Okuley scored five runs and batted in one run and had a .611 on-base percentage.

Hayden Tobias | Men's Track & Field | Sr. | Fishers, Ind.

Hayden Tobias completed his sweep of the 2024 Big Ten shot put titles after claiming the outdoor championship this past weekend. Tobias won the title on his last throw with a season-best 20.00m.
Tobias also competed in the hammer throw (55.40m) and discus (48.76m).
Tobias ranks seventh in the country in the shot put this season.
