Coached foil squad to CCFC title
COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Elvis Gregory Gil of the Ohio State fencing program has been selected the CCFC Men's Team Assistant Coach of the Year, the Central Collegiate Fencing Conference announced. Award winners were voted on by the league's head coaches.
This year, Gregory helped lead the Buckeyes to the CCFC men's team and men's foil squad titles. Edriss Ndiaye was the winner of the CCFC men's foil title and earned Second Team All-America accolades after finishing sixth at the NCAA Championships.
Gregory is in his fifth year on the Ohio State staff. He has guided the men's foil squad to the conference title each year he has been on staff, with the men also winning all five overall league championships, and the women have captured the last three foil squad titles and four overall women's team trophies. Ohio State has had two men's and two women's foil fencers qualify for the NCAA Championships each year they were eligible during his tenure, combining for nine All-America honors.
As a team, the Buckeyes finished sixth at this year's NCAA Championships, the fourth straight Top 6 finish for the program while competing at the event.
