Mendez, Welsh, Feldman Secure Spots in NCAA Quarterfinals

COLUMBUS, Ohio — No. 1 seed Jesse Mendez (141), No. 6 seed Rocco Welsh (174) and No. 9 seed Nick Feldman (HWT) secured spots in the quarterfinals of the 2024 NCAA Championships after each won twice Thursday at the T-Mobile Center in Kansas City Missouri.
Ohio State is in 7th place after the first day of competition with 20.5 points.
Eight of nine Buckeyes who qualified for the NCAA Championships this year remain in contention for a Top 3 finished in their respective weight classes.
After the preliminary and opening rounds, seven Buckeyes won their first matches of the day.
Nic Bouzakis (133), Isaac Wilcox (157/prelim), Welsh (174), Rogotzke (184/pin) and Feldman (HWT/pin) won their respective NCAA Tournament openers. Mendez (141), who is making his second NCAA appearance, and Dylan D'Emilio (149), in his fourth NCAA event, won their openers as well.
The Buckeyes were in fourth place overall after the conclusion of Round One with 12.5 points.
