Dunne Named Julie Chu Rookie of the Year

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State women's hockey student-athlete Joy Dunne has been named the 2024 Julie Chu Rookie of the Year recipient, the Women's Hockey Commissioners Association announced Thursday. She is the first Buckeye to receive the award, which was established in 2014.
Dunne has skated in every game this season for the top-ranked Buckeyes and leads the team in scoring. Her 40 points and 22 goals are the most among rookies nationally. She is tied for third in the Ohio State record book for points by a rookie and is the first Buckeye rookie to record 40 points since the 2017-18 season.
The WCHA Rookie of the Year netted two hat tricks this season, first with three goals in her first game scoring for Ohio State against Bemidji State (Nov. 3) and another against then-ranked No. 2 Minnesota (Jan. 12). She recorded goal in four of the Buckeyes' last five games of the post season and recorded multiple points in three of those games. The forward is one of two players on the team to record four points in a game twice this season and she is the only player this year to tally two hat tricks.
Dunne is tied for the team lead with four power play goals on the year and is second with seven power play points. The O'Fallon, Mo. native's five game-winning goals also tie for first on the team.
In her first season at Ohio State, Dunne helped the Buckeyes to record-setting numbers in multiple categories including goals, assists, points and conference wins.
The award is voted on by Division I assistant coaches, with one vote per staff.
