On transitioning to linebacker position
There was already a little talk about playing some linebacker before the season even ended. I wasn't really learning it, no one was teaching me, but I was getting to know it a little bit. Just because I knew I would probably play linebacker at some point. So when Downs came here I thought where can I help the defense the most?
We're trying to give our best on the field, so where can I help the defense the most?
Brandon Inniss
On him, Jeremiah and Carnell as a trio in the next 2 or 3 years
They're gonna be the best receiver room in the country. We've been holding that narrative for so long now, but we're going to continue to do that. We just want to be the best and we know when it's our time to come, we're going to do that and definitely get a national championship.
Tim Walton
On what the team looks for in recruits
We try to shoot straight, honest communication, honest assessment, character, value and work ethic. The main thing is competition. You have to compete. If you don't want to compete it's not going to be the place for you. That's the thing that will get us to where we need to go. Competition in the room and the guys here love to compete. We sell that. We're looking for guys who embrace that and who cherish being in those spots.
Carnell Tate
On his mindset this year
I'm trying to play. I'm trying to have a breakout year and just like last year I wanted to play. So I don't really think anything's changed. I'm just trying to go out there and make a name for myself. There are coaches telling me, 'we're going to need you, we need you to make the play. We're going to need some energy out of you.' So I can definitely sense having a bigger role this season.
Brian Hartline
On competition between the corners and the receivers
The competition's even more awesome, the chippiness, the chirping and the fun. It's even more heightened. At one point it wasn't that way, so it's a lot of fun. They win, we win, it's back and forth. It's a heavyweight fight daily and it's pretty cool because when guys do come in and visit as recruits they see it and that's one of the first things they say.
CJ Hicks
On his next steps this spring
Keep taking it day by day. Every rep is a game rep. Laurinaitis is talking about how he wants to rotate 4 or 5 backers. I feel like everybody's stepping up, and there's more competition. Everybody's stepping up to that role, so everybody's fighting for a spot. Even me and Cody, our spot's not solidified right now but we just keep fighting. My goal for the spring is obviously to maintain my spot, but also at the same time, continue to learn, continue to take steps forward and be the best player I can be.
Jayden Ballard
On possibilities next season and learning from teammates
I think it'll be a good opportunity for me since I came in with a lot of guys like Chris, Jack, Garrett and obviously Marv and Meka are in my class. So, just learning from them and just building off that and keep stacking days.
