
Taylor Named Naismith Defensive Player of the Year Finalist

The Atlanta Tipoff Club announced the four finalists for the 2024 Naismith Women’s Defensive Player of the Year on Tuesday.
COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Atlanta Tipoff Club announced the finalists for the 2024 Naismith Women's Defensive Player of the Year on Tuesday. Graduate guard Celeste Taylor was one of the four finalists after being the only player from the Big Ten Conference to be named one of the 10 semifinalists last week. She was also named to the Naismith Defensive Player of the Year Watch List earlier this season.
Taylor was named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year by the coaches and selected to the All-Big Ten Second Team and All-Big Ten Defensive Team by both the coaches and media. She was on the preseason watch lists for the Naismith Trophy, Wooden Award and Ann Meyers Drysdale Award. Taylor was named ESPN Player of the Week (Feb. 26), Big Ten Player of the Week (Dec. 4) and to the Big Ten Weekly Honor Roll (Feb. 26).
Taylor leads the Big Ten in steals per game (2.3) and is seventh in blocks per game (0.9). Taylor has scored at least 10 points in 17 games this season and boasts a pair of double-doubles and a pair of 20-point performances. She recently surpassed 1,500 career points and adds 688 career rebounds, 334 career assists and 286 career steals. This season, Taylor is averaging 10.2 points, 4.1 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 2.3 steals per game.
