
Mendez Earns No. 1 Seed, Nine Buckeyes Headed to NCAA Championships

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio State's nine NCAA wrestling qualifiers learned their seeds and first-round opponents Wednesday in advance of the 2024 NCAA Wrestling Championships March 21-23 at the T-Mobile Center in Kansas City, Missouri.
The Buckeyes qualified wrestlers in 7-of-10 weight classes last weekend at the 2024 Big Ten Wrestling Championships at the XFINITY Center in College Park, Maryland. Click HERE for the recap.
Ohio State added two more to its NCAA lineup this year when the NCAA announced Tuesday redshirt freshmen Brendan McCrone (125) and Nic Bouzakis (133) earned at-large bids.
The Buckeyes will send three Top 10 seeds to Kansas City with 2024 Big Ten Champion Jesse Mendez leading the way with a No. 1 seed at 141.
Tom Ryan, head coach of the Buckeyes, has sent nine or more wrestlers to the national tournament eight times during his 18-year Ohio State career (2007-present).
Six Buckeyes headed to Kansas City are in their freshman season at Ohio State, the most for Ryan during his Ohio State career.
Ohio State has had 139 NCAA Qualifiers under Ryan. The Buckeyes have earned 70 All-America honors and have finished in the Top 5 nine times. Fourteen teams have finished among the Top 10.
The 2015 team won the NCAA title and five teams have placed second.
