
Bernard, Buglioni Earn Final WCHA Player of the Month Awards

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Western Collegiate Hockey Association named its final Player of the Month awards Tuesday and Buckeyes Lauren Bernard and Jenna Buglioni were picked as honorees. Bernard is the Defender of the Month and Buglioni is the Forward of the Month for February.

Bernard led the team with eight assists in February and finished the month with 11 points. She earned a +20 on ice for the Buckeyes in eight games, including a season-best +5 in the wins against Bemidji State (Feb. 3) and St. Thomas (Feb. 16). She also finished the month with eight blocked shots, four of which were recorded in the series at No. 2 Wisconsin.

One of her three goals scored in February came on a shorthanded opportunity against St. Thomas (Feb. 17). It was her first shorthanded goal of her career and the Buckeyes' program-record tying seventh of the season.

Buglioni paced Ohio State with 13 points and seven goals in February. She tallied her first career hat trick with three goals against Bemidji State (Feb. 3) and tied her career high of four points in the game. She also scored two shorthanded goals in the game against the Beavers to become the first player in program history to record multiple shorthanded goals in a game and help the Buckeyes set a program record for shorthanded goals in a game (3).

The Port Moody, B.C. native recorded a point in seven of the team's eight games played in February. She also added a goal in the team's 3-1 win at the second-ranked Badgers last weekend.

The Buckeyes start postseason play this weekend, hosting a best-of-three WCHA quarterfinal series against No. 8 seed Bemidji State. Games are set for 6 p.m. Friday, 3 p.m. Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday, if needed.
