EAST LANSING, Mich. -- Dale Bonner made a three-pointer with 0.2 seconds remaining to give Ohio State a long awaited road victory, sinking Michigan State 60-57 on Sunday at the Breslin Center.
The win was the first true road victory of the season for the Buckeyes, who are now 16-12 overall and 6-11 in the Big Ten.
Â
Ohio State was led in scoring by freshman Devin Royal, who had a career-high 14 points on 6-of-8 shooting from the field. Sophomore Roddy Gayle Jr. added 12 points, including going a perfect 6-for-6 from the foul line. Gayle hit a pair of free throws with 11 second remaining to give the Buckeyes a one-point lead.
Bonner made two of the Buckeyes' three three-pointers in the game to finish with six points. Big man Felix Okpara had 10 points and finished with six rebounds.
The Buckeyes shot just 24 percent in the opening half but turned it around in the second shoot, shooting better than 51 percent. Michigan State was limited to less than 40 percent from the floor in the second half and was 0-of-7 from long range.
Â
Both teams started slow as Michigan State held a 13-8 lead almost midway through the first half. Gayle Jr. was able to make it a one-point game with his dunk, but the Spartans would outscore the Buckeyes by nine points in the final ten minutes of the half to hold a 32-22 edge at the break.
Â
The second half was a different story with Ohio State hitting their first five shots, but so would Michigan State/ The Spartans continued to hold a 10-point advantage with 12 minutes to play. The Buckeyes broke out onto a 13-2 run going into the under 12 timeout and cut the lead to 52-51 by the next break.
Â
Royal cut the lead to one off a nice pass from Okpara. Bonner would come up with a steal in the final two minutes that led to Gayle Jr. giving the Buckeyes the first lead of the game at the line, 57-56.
Â
After Tyson Walker split a pair of free throws on the other end, Bonner would hit the game-winning three-pointer with just 0.2l seconds eft on the clock to give the Buckeyes to win.
The Buckeyes will close out the home regular season portion of the schedule with a pair of games next week. They will host Nebraska on Thursday night and then host Michigan on Sunday for Senior Day.
