
Buckeyes Win Five Medals and Extend Lead on Day Three of B1G Championships

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 8 Ohio State women's swimming and diving team collected five medals on the third day of the Big Ten Championships on Friday and extended their lead.
The Buckeyes currently have 907 points and are 23 points ahead of second-place Indiana.
Katherine Zenick earned the first win of the night for the Buckeyes, successfully defending her 100 fly title. She won gold with an NCAA B standard time of 51.47. Also competing in the A final, Tristan Harrison (52.03) placed fifth, Morgan Kraus (52.25) placed sixth and Catherine Russo (53.22) placed eighth. All three of their times are NCAA B cuts.
The Buckeyes finished 1-2 in the 100 breast. Hannah Bach was the champion, turning in a speedy NCAA S standard time of 57.54. Bach's time is the fourth-fastest in the country this season. Josephine Panitz earned the silver medal, touching the wall at 58.49, which is an NCAA B cut and the 10th-best time in the country this season. Reese Dehen placed seventh in the 100 breast A final with an NCAA B cut time of 1:00.52.
In the 400 IM, Krista Marlin earned her first Big Ten medal as a Buckeye. She won bronze, turning in an NCAA B standard time of 4:09.46. Mia Rankin (4:10.48) finished fifth, Kyra Sommerstad (4:11.24) placed seventh and Jessica Eden (4:15.21) finished eighth in the A final All three times are NCAA B cuts.
Paige Hall swam an NCAA B standard time of 4:11.54 to win the 400 IM B final.
Nyah Funderburke medaled in the 100 back, turning in an NCAA B standard time of 51.68 to win bronze. Harrison finished fifth with an NCAA B cut time of 52.69 and Kraus took eighth with an NCAA B standard time of 52.87.
Teresa Ivan won the C final of the 100 back, touching the wall at 53.86, which is just .04 seconds short of an NCAA B cut.
In the 200 free A final, Amy Fulmer earned a fifth-place finish, swimming the event in 1:44.77, which is an NCAA B standard time. Maya Geringer finished fifth in the C final with a time of 1:47.73.
Janie Boyle placed seventh in the 3-meter diving finals with an NCAA Zones qualifying score of 312.45. Lena Hentschel was the winner of the consolation final with an aggregate score of 337.20, which qualifies her for NCAA Zones.
Before the start of Friday night's finals, the Big Ten honored the Sportsmanship Award winners from each school. Mia Lachey was the honoree from Ohio State.
The Big Ten Championships wrap up on Saturday, Feb. 24. Prelims will begin at 10:00 a.m. and finals will get underway at 5:00 p.m. Saturday's events are the 200 back, 100 free, 200 breast, 200 fly, platform diving and the 400 free relay.
