COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 14 Ohio State women's gymnastics team earned a second-place finish in the first session of the Big Five Meet Friday night at Rec Hall in University Park, Pa. The Buckeyes scored a 197.000 to defeat Minnesota (196.900), Nebraska (195.725) and Rutgers (194.300), and finished two tenths behind first-place Michigan State (197.200).
Payton Harris won two event titles in the meet. She scored a 39.500 in the all-around and a 9.925 on uneven bars to lead the meet. Her uneven bars score is a career best.
The Buckeyes' best event of the night was floor. The team scored a 49.475 and Ella Hodges (9.950), Tory Vetter (9.925) and Kaylyn Mintz (9.900) scored 9.900's for Ohio State. Hodges and Vetter tied their career bests and finished second and third, respectively.
On vault, Vetter and Mallory Gregory matched their career highs. Vetter tallied another 9.925 and Gregory earned a 9.875.
Samara Buchanan competed in her first competitive beam routine on Friday for the Buckeyes.
