Will compete on the international stage April 24-26, 2024 in Orlando
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State's national championship-winning dance team will soon get another opportunity to make a name for itself on a big stage.
Today, USA Cheer announced that Ohio State's pom and jazz routine have been selected to represent the United States at the International Cheer Union World Championships in Orlando later this spring. The ICU recently received full recognition by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) as the world governing body and cheer and dance.
This year's ICU World Championships will take place April 24-26 in Orlando. The opening ceremony is slated for April 24 with competition concluding April 26.
"This is certainly an exciting accomplishment for our team and a first for our program," said Melissa McGhee, Ohio State's spirit program director and head dance coach. "We're thrilled to be able to represent the United States on the world level, which is truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience for our student-athletes. We are looking forward to interacting with the teams from other countries and embracing the international experience and competition!"
The Buckeyes are no stranger to success in the city of Orlando. This past January, Ohio State took home top honors in D1 jazz and was national runners-up in D1 pom at the UDA College Nationals. In five of the last six years, the Buckeyes have won at least one championship at nationals, culminating in 2022 when they won three:
2018: First place in jazz and pom
2019: First place in pom
2020: First place in jazz
2021: First place in jazz and pom
2022: First place in jazz, pom and gameday
2024: First place jazz
