
Ohio State Fires 4708, Wins Beanpot Tournament

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio State University rifle team traveled to Cambridge, Mass over the weekend to compete against MIT as part of the annual Beanpot Tournament. The Buckeyes fired a team score of 4708 to win the tournament for the second season in a row. Akron (4700) placed second, MIT (4322) third, Norwich (4304) fourth and Coast Guard (4162) fifth.
In smallbore, the team finished with a score of 2332 led by Derek Keiser, who fired a score of 588 which became a new range record at MIT. Viktor Kiss (584), Paige Hollowell (582), Lillian Warren (578), and Dylan Gregory (576) rounded out team scoring. John Hamilton fired as an individual and posted a score of 570.
In air rifle, the team posted a score of 2376 led by Viktor Kiss who equaled his career best with a 597 which set a new range record at MIT. Derek Keiser (595), Lillian Warren (593), Paige Hollowell (591), and Dylan Gregory (588) rounded out a very solid air rifle day for the team. Firing as an individual, John Hamilton fired a career best 594.
In total, Ohio State set or equaled six MIT range records: Individual smallbore (Derek Keiser), individual air rifle (Viktor Kiss), individual aggregate (Derek Keiser – 1183), team smallbore (2332), team air rifle (2376), and team aggregate (4708).
Coach Tanoue: "It has been fantastic to compete at MIT in Cambridge over the past two seasons and we are looking forward to continuing to have the opportunity to compete in this match into the future. The team had a very solid match overall with several career best performances which is great to see as we come down the home stretch of the season. I also felt that this match set us up well as we head into the NCAA Qualifier next Saturday and we are as ready as we can be for that challenge and the push to qualify for the NCAA Championships."
Ohio State hosts the NCAA Qualifier with Akron and Nebraska on Saturday, February 17.
NCAA Team qualification consists of a team's 3 Score Average (http://www.ncaarifle.org/Home/NCAATeamSelections) plus their score from the NCAA Qualifier match. The top 8 teams will qualify for the NCAA Championships which will be hosted by West Virginia University and take place March 7-9 in Morgantown, WVa.
