
Royal Scores 18 as Buckeyes Fall in College Park

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Ohio State sophomore guard Devin Royal scored 18 points and grabbed nine rebounds to pace the Buckeyes in a 83-59 setback against Maryland in College Park on Wednesday.
The Buckeyes are now 5-3 on the year and drop the Big Ten opener while Maryland improves to 8-1 overall.
Royal has played well at the start of the season and continued that on Wednesday. He came in averaging 16 points and eight rebounds over the last four games and topped both of those numbers on Wednesday.
Freshman John Mobley Jr. knocked-down three three-pointers and finished with 15 points and four rebounds. All 15 of his points came in the second half.
Bruce Thornton had nine points, four rebounds and a pair of assists.
Maryland raced out of the gate and shot 52 percent in the opening half and forced 12 Ohio State turnovers. The Terrapins led 50-17 at the break. Royal had 10 of the Buckeyes’ 17 points in the opening 20 minutes.
The Buckeyes outscored Maryland 42-33 in the second half, shooting 43 percent.
