Defenseman had two goals and five shot blocks in series sweep

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Senior blueliner Brent Johnson of the Ohio State men's hockey team was named the Big Ten Second Star of the Week after scoring two goals and blocking five shots to help the Buckeyes to a sweep of Notre Dame.

Johnson, from Frisco, Texas, and the Buckeyes limited Notre Dame to two goals and 34 shots in the two-game series sweep. He scored the overtime winner Friday in a 2-1 win, blocking three shots in the victory. Saturday, he put the Buckeyes on the board with a goal in the last minute of the first period and had two shot blocks as the Buckeyes won 3-1. Ohio State allowed 19 shots in game one and 15 in game two and was 3-for-3 on the PK in the series.

This season, the Washington Capitals draft pick has three goals and four assists for seven points, leading the Buckeyes with 26 shot blocks while playing in 17 games.

The series vs. the Irish wrapped up the 2024 portion of the Buckeyes' schedule. The No. 14-ranked squad is 13-4-1 on the year and has a 6-2-0 2-0-0 B1G ledger, with wins in the last four games.

The Buckeyes will be back in action Jan. 3 when they take on No. 9/8 Michigan in The Frozen Confines outdoor game at Wrigley Field in Chicago, followed by a game vs. the Wolverines in Ann Arbor, Mich., Jan. 5. The Buckeyes will then return home for a two-game series against Minnesota Jan. 10-11.
