Forward had six points in sweep of Lake Superior State
COLUMBUS, Ohio – After a six-point series, sophomore forward Riley Thompson of the Ohio State men's hockey team received Big Ten Third Star of the Week accolades. He helped lead the Buckeyes to a sweep of Lake Superior State with 9-3 and 6-2 victories.
In the two games combined, Thompson had a team-high five assists and six points. He was +6, shared the team lead with four shot blocks and won 25 faceoffs.
In game one, Thompson had two assists and was +2, with a block and 13 faceoff wins. He had the first assist on a goal just 23 seconds into the game and also set up a goal early in the third (the third of three in a 1:39 span after LSSU had cut the score to one).
Saturday, Thompson had a goal and three assists for four points, with a +4 rating and three shot blocks. All three assists came in the second period as Ohio State stretched its lead to 4-0 and he sealed the victory with a shorthanded empty net goal.
Thompson leads the Buckeyes with 10 points on the year, sharing the assist lead with seven. The three assists and four points Saturday were both a career best. He had three points in an outing vs. Stonehill March 1 while skating for Alaska Anchorage and notched three two-assist games at UAA (along with the two-assist night in game one).
