COLUMBUS, Ohio – Week in and week out, Buckeyes raise the standard of excellence set at Ohio State, whether that be in competition, in the classroom or in the community. 'Buckeye Spotlight' recognizes Buckeye student-athletes who had noteworthy accomplishments both in contests and beyond the box score.
Brandon Carpico & Preston Stearns | Men's Tennis | R-Fr. & R-So. | Gahanna & Cincinnati, Ohio
· Brandon Carpico and Preston Stearns teamed to win the Fighting Irish Mini Duals over the weekend.
· They won all four of their doubles matches to start each of the mini duals.
· Stearns then won all four of his singles matches, including a 1-6, 6-4, 10-3 win over Kosuke Nakanishi of Louisville in the clinching match.
· Carpico went 2-2 in his singles matches to help claim his second title this fall. He also won the Milwaukee Tennis Classic doubles title in September.
Davis Burnside | Men's Hockey | Jr. | Scottsdale, Ariz.
· Burnside had a team-best three goals and added an assist for four points to help the Buckeyes to a sweep of Lake Superior State last weekend. He was +5 in the series and had a shot block.
· Saturday, he had a career-best three points, including his fifth career two-goal game. He is on a three-game goal-scoring streak and four-game point streak (4g, 3a, 7p) and now has four goals, four assists and eight points this season.
· Burnside and the No. 13/12-ranked Buckeyes, who are 7-0-1 on the year, head to Michigan State for a B1G series vs. the No. 4/3t-ranked Spartans this weekend.
Gabriel Feinberg | Men's Fencing | Sr. | Lincoln, Mass.
· Feinberg did not drop a bout in the West Invitational over the weekend in San Diego.
· He was a perfect 14-0 in epee, competing in five of the six team events. He was 3-0 vs. Air Force, Stanford, Brandeis and Harvard and 2-0 against Incarnate Word.
· As a team, the Buckeye men were 5-1, with Feinberg and the epee squad also 5-1.
Thomas Gilej | Men's Soccer | R-Sr. | Wuppertal, Germany
· Scored the first goal in Ohio State's 2-1 win at No. 10 Maryland
· Goal was his first of the season and second career score
· Helped the Buckeyes clinch share of 2024 Big Ten Title and No. 1 seed in Big Ten Tournament
· Ohio State earned a bye to the Big Ten Tournament semifinals Nov. 10 in Bridgeview, Illinois
Tristan Jankovics | Men's Swimming & Diving | Jr. | Guelph, Ontario
· Jankovics helped the No. 12 men's swimming and diving team to a one-point victory, 177-176, over No. 10 Virginia Tech over the weekend.
· Jankovics won the 400 IM, turning in an NCAA B standard time of 3:47.43.
· He was also the winner of the 200 fly with a time of 1:47.45.
· Jankovics placed second in both the 200 IM (1:46.77) and the 200 breast (1:58.88).
Alina Lee | Women's Fencing | Sr. | Dublin, Calif.
· Lee was first for the Buckeye women at the West Invitational in San Diego, Calif., last weekend.
· Over the women's eight dual matches, she was 18-2 while competing in all eight matchups.
· The women's team was 7-1, downing Air Force, Stanford, UCSD, Brandeis, Incarnate Word, Tufts and Harvard. Lee and the women's foil squad notched a 7-1 ledger.
Aniya Mosley | Women's Cross Country | Jr. | Virginia Beach, Va.
· Mosley captured First Team All-Big Ten honors with an eighth-place finish at the Big Ten Championships in Champaign, Ill., last Friday.
· An All-American in the 800m in the outdoor season in the spring, her improvement in cross country is impressive; she was 110th at the 2023 Big Ten XC Championships.
· In 2024, Mosley finished in a personal-best time of 19:38.4.
· A Buckeye woman has earned a spot on the All-Big Ten team for each of the last six years.
Nao Nishino | Women's Tennis | Fr. | Tokyo, Japan
· Nishino was a combined 6-0 to lead the Buckeyes at the MSU Spartan Invite last weekend.
· She posted three straight-set wins in Flight A singles (dropping more than two games just once) to capture the flight title. In doubles, she and Dani Schoenly paired up for three wins.
· This fall, Nishino is 11-3 in singles, with a 6-5 doubles ledger.
Mia Tuman | Women's Volleyball | So. | Sewickley, Pa.
· Tuman averaged 10.57 assists and 2.29 digs/set this past week, leading Ohio State to a pair of wins.
· Tuman started the week with 30 assists and a trio of digs in the sweep of Iowa, also recording a pair of kills, a block and an ace. She assisted on set point in the second set and match point in the third.
· Against Michigan State in four sets, Tuman earned her fifth double-double of the season with 44 assists and 13 digs. She also had three kills and a block.
· This season, Tuman leads the team and ranks 10th in the Big Ten with 9.81 assists/set. She also is averaging 2.23 digs/set, 0.58 blocks/set and has a hitting percentage of .293.
Jack Vojtko | Men's Golf | So. | Stow, Ohio
· Vojtko shot a bogey-free 6-under 66 to win the prestigious East Lake Cup last week at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta, Ga.
· Vojtko was 5-under over his final six holes to race to the top of the leaderboard and win the event by one shot.
· He joins a list of winners from the event that includes Scottie Scheffler, Viktor Hovland, Gordon Sargent and Chris Gotterup.
