Ohio State Tops Central Michigan 7-1 on Senior Day

Three Buckeye seniors scored goals in the regular season finale
COLUMBUS, Ohio – The fourth-ranked Ohio State field hockey team notched a season-high seven goals in a 7-1 win over Central Michigan on Sunday. The Buckeyes finished the regular season at 14-4 and 4-4 in the Big Ten.
Seven different Buckeyes scored goals in the win, including seniors Makenna Webster, Claudia Thomas and Jenna Zunic. Zunic's goal was the first of her career.
How it Happened
The Chippewas opened up scoring in the first quarter, finding the cage in the eighth minute after a drive down the field. Three minutes later, the Buckeye offense answered, scoring twice in 60 seconds to take a 2-1 lead. Three minutes into the second quarter, the Buckeyes charged down the field and scored again to go up 3-1. The Buckeyes outshot Central Michigan 11-3 in the first half.
Ohio State took full control in the third quarter, scoring three goals in five minutes to lift the score to 6-1. The Buckeyes scored the last goal of the game in the 50th minute, driving down the pitch to set the score at 7-1.
How The Goals Were Scored
- Central Michigan's Cameron Pluciennik found the back of the cage at the 8:09-minute mark, thanks to an assist by Mallory Camryn. Pluciennik, a forward, totals four goals on the season.
- Graduate forward Webster scored her 100th career point in the 11th minute, finding the open goal after an assist by Hallie Brost. Webster sits at 15 goals so far this year.
- Less than a minute later, senior Jenna Zunic scored her first career goal on a penalty stroke. Zunic, a back from Johnson City, New York, is a four-year veteran of the squad.
- In the 18th minute, senior Claudia Thomas scored her first goal of the season after a charge down the sideline and an assist by Webster. The midfielder from Louisville totals 25 points in her career.
- Junior forward Loryn Jordon recorded her first goal of the season in the 37th minute on a direct hit in front of the cage. Twelve seconds later, the Buckeyes drove down the pitch again and Cam Standish found the open goal.
- With four minutes left in the third quarter, Zella Bailey scored her fourth goal of the season after an Ohio State shot from the top of the circle was blocked.
- Freshman Sienna Golden found the open goal in the 50th minute, thanks to an assist by MaKayla Carahaly. Golden had four goals on the year.
Buckeye This and That
- Ohio State finished the regular season with 14 wins - the most since the 2010 season. That year, the Buckeyes reached the NCAA semifinals.
- Ohio State's seven goals in today's win are the most the Buckeyes have scored all season. The last time the scarlet and gray notched seven or more goals was on last year's senior day, where the Buckeyes topped Bellarmine 7-0.
- The Buckeyes finish the regular season with a 9-1 record at home. Ohio State only allowed nine goals on their home turf this season and notched the most wins in Columbus since the 2009 season.
- Ohio State notched a season-high 31 shots on the day. Ohio State is 12-1 this season when outshooting its opponents.
- With a goal and an assist in today's match, Webster totals 102 points in her career as a Buckeye. She sits in 10th place in program history.
- Ohio State has held its opponents to single-digit shots in ten games this season. The Buckeyes hold a 276-164 advantage in shots this year.

With the regular season now complete, the Buckeyes will turn their focus to the Big Ten Tournament, which begins on Thursday in College Park, Maryland. No. 5-seeded Ohio State is set to face the fourth-seeded Scarlet Knights of Rutgers on Thursday at 11 a.m.
