
Buckeyes Remain Undefeated with Victory Over Virginia Tech

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State men's and women's swimming and diving teams remain unbeaten after defeating Virginia Tech on Saturday. The No. 12 Buckeye men turned in an exciting finish; trailing going into the final event of the day, the 400 free relay, Ohio State raced to a first-place finish to defeat the No. 10 Hokies by one point, 177-176, The No. 11 women defeated the Hokies, 196-157.

Men's Meet Notes
- Ohio State took second and third place in the 200 medley relay to begin the day. The team of Cornelius Jahn, Rylan McDaniel, Henry Dvorak and Mario McDonald finished second with a time of 1:28.46 and the team of Matt Klinge, Karl Helmuth, Evan Fentress and Daniel Baltes finished third with a time of 1:28.49.
- Tristan Jankovics (3:47.43), Alex Metzler (3:55.70), Sam Campbell (3:56.70) and Will Bansberg (3:56.89) finished 1-2-3-4 in the 400 IM. Jankovics' time is an NCAA B standard time.
- Tomas Navikonis was the winner of the 200 free with a time of 1:36.92.
- Fentress (48.49), Klinge (48.51) and Servaas Fick (48.54) placed third, fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 100 fly.
- Jankovics finished second in the 200 breast, touching the wall at 1:58.88.
- Jahn took second place in the 100 back with a time of 48.15.
- Baltes placed third in the 50 free, finishing in 19.88. Klinge placed fourth with a time of 20.25.
- Tyler Read placed second in the 3-meter dive with an NCAA Zones qualifying score of 370.95.
- The Buckeyes went 1-2-3 in the 1000 free. Metzler took the top spot, finishing in 9:14.70. Campbell was second with a time of 9:15.58 and Mason Edmund finished third with a time of 9:17.25.
- Trailing going into the final event of the day, the Buckeyes came out strong in the 400 free relay and secured a one-point victory over Virginia Tech. The relay team of Navikonis, Fentress, McDonald and Baltes finished first in a time of 2:53.83, finishing less than one second ahead of Virginia Tech (2:54.05). Ohio State secured some extra points with the relay team of Jahn, Joseph Roth, Martin Perecinsky and Jankovics placing third with a time 3:00.62.
Women's Meet Notes
- The Buckeyes opened day two against the Hokies with a victory in the 200 medley relay, with the team of Nyah Funderburke, Maria Ramos, Katherine Zenick and Teresa Ivan finishing in 1:39.42. Coming in third with a time of 1:41.57 was the relay team of Delia Lloyd, Ava DeAngelis, Paige Hall and Erin Little.
- Mia Rankin was the winner of the 400 IM with a time of 4:22.04. Krista Marlin placed second, touching the wall at 4:22.29.
- Sienna Angove finished second in the 200 free, turning in a time of 1:47.81. Tia Lindsay (1:50.13), Mila Nikanorov (1:50.17) and Rachel Bockrath (1:51.30) finished third, fourth and fifth, respectively.
- Zenick raced to a win in the 100 fly; she finished in 54.38.
- DeAngelis won the 200 breast with a time of 2:16.38.
- Lloyd finished third in the 100 back, touching the wall at 55.10. Hall (55.67) and Marlin (55.95) placed fourth and fifth.
- Ivan (23.05), Angove (23.27) and Bockrath (23.30) placed second, third and fourth in the 50 free.
- Paola Pineda Vazquez won the 1-meter dive with a score of 337.95. Lena Hentschel placed second with a score of 336.60. Both scores are NCAA Zones qualifiers.
- Nikanorov won the 1000 free with a time of 9:53.57. Gwen Woodbury placed second with a time of 10:07.26 and Lucy Malys finished third with a time of 10:09.99.
- The Buckeyes closed out the meet placing second and third in the 400 free relay. The relay team of Angove, Zenick, Ivan and Bockrath finished second with a time of 3:19.93 and the team of Little, Marlin, Funderburke and Lindsay finished third with a time of 3:25.68.
- The Buckeyes return to McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion to host Big Ten opponent Penn State on Friday, Nov. 8 at 3:00 p.m. Ohio State will celebrate Senior Day, recognizing the class of 2025 prior to the meet at approximately 2:30 p.m.
