No. 2 Ohio State 31, Northwestern 7Â
Nov. 16, 2024 – Wrigley Field, Chicago, Ill.Â
Attendance: 38,147Â
Ryan Day, Ohio State head coach
On what turned around the defensive play after a rough start…
"I think we got off the field on third down. They only had 50 yards rushing, but we started to get off the field on third down. We had a couple nice sacks. A couple of those third downs were third and extra longs where the one was a run and the other was a bubble screen that continued some drives. Overall, I thought we settled down once those first couple of drives hit"
Â
On Carnell Tate's homecoming…
"Carnell is not someone who talks about himself or really even wants me talking about him right now and everything he has been through. The game does not really care about what you have been through, but we do. His teammates do, his coaches do, the people that know a lot about Carnell Tate and how he has handled himself it's been an example to everyone."
Â
On pushing the ball downfield…
"I feel that there were really good ones down there. We pushed the ball down the field and then we got some of our playmakers the ball in space, which is great. There are still other things we've got to do a better job of."
Â
On the importance of Sonny Styles…
"We need Sonny to be as productive as he was today. When you can do it in man coverage, zone coverage and blitzing, you can mix all of these different things and become more of a weapon. You saw him get after the quarterback today, it's something we have been working on. There have been a couple times in the last few weeks where we have had guys go right by the quarterback at full speed but miss them and we have been training to correct that."
