COLUMBUS, Ohio -- No. 6 Ohio State (1-0) opened the 2024-25 dual season Thursday at the Covelli Center with a 36-6 win over the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga (0-2). The 2015 Ohio State National Championship Team was recognized at the break following the fifth match of the evening.

The dual was the first competition for graduate Sammy Sasso, a four-time All-American and two-time Big Ten champion, following injuries suffered during an off-campus incident in August of 2023. He won his match 12-6 in his return to action.

Sasso last competed at the 2023 NCAA Championships where he finished second at 149. He will compete this year at 165.

The Buckeyes will travel to take on Edinboro (2-0) at 1 p.m. Sunday in the first road dual of the season

Mendez and Feldman will take part in the 2024 NWCA All Star Classic Saturday at Rec Hall in State College, Pennsylvania. No. 2 Mendez will face No. 3 Beau Bartlett (Penn State) while No. 3 Feldman will face No. 7 Taye Ghadiali of Campbell.

125        No. 11 Brendan McCrone (OSU) def. Ty Tice (UTC) | TF, 16-0
McCrone got the first takedown of the Ohio State dual season late in the first period for the 3-0 lead after three minutes. McCrone started the second period with a two-point near fall for a 5-0 lead. He then added a four-point near fall for a 9-0 advantage entering the final period. Starting neutral, McCrone added three more points with a quick takedown and then another four point near fall for a 16-0 win by technical fall.

133        No. 18 Nic Bouzakis (OSU) def. No. 24 Blake Boarman (UTC) | D, 12-7
Boarman scored first with a takedown followed by a Bouzakis escape for a 3-1 lead. Bouzakis took the lead with a late takedown to head to the second period leading 4-3. An escape to open the second put Bouzakis up 5-3. A takedown, escape sequence put Bouzakis up 8-4. That score held going into the third. Boarman escaped to open the final period to make it 8-5. Bouzakis added a takedown followed by a Boarman reversal. Bouzakis added an escape to win by decision,12-7.

141        No. 2 Jesse Mendez (OSU) def. No. 20 Isaiah Powe (UTC) | TF, 23-7
Mendez, the reining Big Ten and NCAA champion, started with a takedown and a 3-1 lead. Powe took the lead briefly with a takedown before Mendez tied it at 4-all with an escape. Mendez went up 7-4 with a takedown at the buzzer to end the first. He added another early in the second after a Powe escape to make it 10-5 Buckeyes. The Ohio State advantage increased to 13-6 with another Mendez takedown after a Powe escape. After a similar sequence and a four-point near fall, Mendez entered the third period leading 20-7. Mendez added added another takedown to wtn it 23-7 by technical fall.

149        No. 11 Dylan D'Emilio (OSU) def. Bretli Reyna (UTC) | MD, 14-3
D'Emilio jumped to a 3-0 lead with a takedown. Reyna got the escape. Another D'Emilio takedown upped the lead to 6-1 after the first three minutes. A D'Emilio escape upped the lead to 7-1 after two periods. Reyna escaped early in the third before a D'Emilio takedown made it 10-3 after another Reyna escape. A late escape and point for riding time earned D'Emilio a win by major decision, 14-3.

157        No. 10 Paddy Gallagher (OSU) def. Noah Castillo (UTC) D, 4-1 (SV)
Neither wrestler scored in the opening period. Castillo opened the second with an escape for a 1-0 lead. After no additional scoring in the period, Gallagher evened the match at 1-0 with an escape to open the third. The bout went to sudden victory where Gallagher got the winning takedown for the 4-1 win by decision.

165        Sammy Sasso (OSU) def. Jackson Hurst (UTC) | D, 12-6
After the intermission, Sasso returned to the mat for the Buckeyes after more than a year away from competition and quickly got the first takedown of the bout for a 3-1 lead after a Hurst escape. Sasso added another takedown to lead 6-1. After a Hurst escape, Sasso added another takedown for a 9-2 lead. Hurst added a late reversal to go to the second period with Sasso in the lead 9-4. Sasso got the reversal early in the second and after a Hurst escape, led 11-5 going into the third. Hurst escaped early in the final period but it was not enough as Sasso got the win by decision with a point for riding time, 12-6.

Hepner had to end the match by injury default in the first period.

184        No. 17 Ryder Rogotzke (OSU) def. Kamdyn Munro (UTC) | D, 19-12
Rogotzke quickly jumped to a 3-1 lead with a takedown and Munro escape. Rogotzke added another two takedowns for a 9-2 lead after the first period. A reversal made it 11-2 Buckeyes early in the second. Munro escaped and then added a takedown to make it 11-6 going to the third. Munro added another escape and takedown early in the third to make it 11-10 Rogotzke. Rogotzke got a reversal and a four-point near fall before a Munro reversal to make it 18-12 after a Munro escape. With a point for riding time, Rogotzke earned the win by decision, 19-12

197        No. 11 Luke Geog (OSU) def. David Harper (UTC) | TF, 20-5
Geog started with a pair ot takedowns for a 6-1 lead. The opening period ended with Geog up 9-2 after another takedown. After an automatic escape for Harper, Geog added another takedown to lead 12-4 after five minutes. Geog escaped to start the third and added a takedown to make it 16-5 after a Harper escape. Harper was penalized for stalling before a Geog finished off the bout with a takedown for a 20-5 win by technical fall.

HWT      No. 3 Nick Feldman (OSU) def. Ethan Vergara (UTC) | TF, 19-4
Feldman got two quick takedowns to start the match and added three more to lead after the first 15-4. He escaped to open the second and got the final takedown to win by technical fall, 19-4.
