
Nikanorov, Hentschel Collect Big Ten Weekly Awards

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Mila Nikanorov and Lena Hentschel have earned Big Ten weekly awards, announced by the conference on Wednesday. Nikanorov has been named the Freshman of the Week and Hentschel is the Diver of the Week.
Nikanorov and Hentschel helped lead the Ohio State women to a dominant 243-57 victory over the Penn State Nittany Lions last week.
Nikanorov set a program record in the 1000 free, finishing in 9:30.49. She beat the previous record of 9:31.81 set by Molly Kowal in 2020 by over one second. She won the event and finished 10 seconds ahead of the second-place swimmer. Nikanorov also picked up a win in the 500 free, finishing in an NCAA B standard time of 4:42.73. This is the second Freshman of the Week award for Nikanorov; she also earned the honor on Oct. 23 after a strong collegiate debut against Kentucky and Akron.
This is Hentschel's first Big Ten weekly award of the season. Hentschel won the 3-meter dive against Penn State with a score of 349.43. She placed second on the 1-meter with a score of 291.53. Both scores are NCAA Zones qualifiers.
The Buckeyes return to McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion next week when they host the Ohio State Fall Invitational Nov. 21-23.
