
McMahon Named to Cheryl Miller Award Preseason Watch List

The Basketball Hall of Fame announced the 20 players on the preseason watch list on Wednesday.
COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Basketball Hall of Fame announced its preseason watch list for the Cheryl Miller Small Forward of the Year Award on Wednesday. Junior forward Cotie McMahon was one of 20 student-athletes on the list after being one of five finalists for the award last season. McMahon was previously named to the Preseason All-Big Ten Team and the Naismith Trophy Women's College Player of the Year Watch List.
The Cheryl Miller Award, in its eighth year, honors the top small forwards in women's Division I women's college basketball. It is named after the three-time Naismith Player of the Year and Class of 1995 Hall of Famer. Fans can support their favorite player by participating in Fan Voting starting Friday, November 1. In late January, the watch list of 20 players for the 2025 Cheryl Miller Award will be narrowed to 10, and then in late February, to just five. In March, the five finalists will be presented to Miller and the Hall of Fame's selection committees, where winners will be selected. The Selection Committees for the Cheryl Miller Award is composed of top women's college basketball personnel, including media members, head coaches, sports information directors, and Hall of Famers. McMahon put together impressive freshman and sophomore seasons with the Buckeyes as she totals 1,005 career points and 400 career rebounds. Among Ohio State's career records, she ranks 18th in free throws made (240) and 19th in free throws attempted (369).
In 2024, McMahon was named a regional finalist for the WBCA Coaches All-America Team in addition to AP and USBWA All-American Honorable Mention. She was one of the five finalists for the Cheryl Miller Award and was selected by the Big Ten coaches and media to the All-Big Ten First Team. McMahon was also named to the preseason and midseason watch lists for the Cheryl Miller Award, Naismith Trophy, Wooden Award and the watch list for the Ann Meyers Drysdale USBWA National Player of the Year. She was named an honorable mention preseason AP All-American and preseason All-Big Ten. McMahon's weekly awards during the 2023-24 season include Naismith Trophy National Player of the Week, AP National Player of the Week, Big Ten Player of the Week, USBWA National Starting Five (twice and the Big Ten Weekly Honor Roll (twice).
McMahon was named Big Ten Freshman of the Year in 2023. Other honors and accolades she earned as a freshman include All-Big Ten Second Team, All-Big Ten Freshman Team and All-Big Ten Tournament Team. McMahon was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week six times throughout the 2022-23 season.
