Ohio State Fires Record-High Opening Match Score to Start 2024 Season

Team score of 4711 was the seventh highest all-time
COLUMBIS, Ohio – The Ohio State rifle team fired a team score of 4711 (Mt. Aloysius – 4468) at the Hugh W. Wylie Range on Saturday. The team score of 4711 was the seventh highest score all time for the team and was the highest ever opening match score.
The team was led by Derek Keiser who fired a match high 1184 aggregate score and John Hamilton who fired a career best 1178 aggregate score.
In smallbore, the Buckeyes finished with a score of 2347 which tied the team record smallbore score. Derek Keiser fired a 589 to lead the team. He was followed by Freshman Gabriella Sprague (587), John Hamilton (586), Lillian Warren (585), and Paige Hollowell (579). Eva Horgan fired a career best 571 while Andrew Duross (575), Nate Wehrlen (571), and Summer Lytle (552) rounded out individual scoring for Ohio State.
In air rifle, Ohio State posted a team score of 2364. The team was again led by Derek Keiser who fired a score of 595. He was followed by John Hamilton (592), Paige Hollowell (589), Gabriella Sprague (588), and Lillian Warren (582). Eva Horgan led the way for Ohio State's individuals with a score of 587, while Andrew Duross (584), Summer Lytle (584), and Nate Wehrlen (576) rounded out individual scoring.
Coach Tanoue: "Saturday was a great way to get our 2024 season started and it was fantastic to be able to host Mt. Aloysius' first ever NCAA match. It was also great to see Summer, Gabriella, and Andrew get their Buckeye careers underway. For our team we had a solid performance overall with some really solid performances with also some things to work on. The team's performance from Saturday will be a solid platform for us to build from as we navigate the fall portion of our season."
Ohio State will travel to Fairbanks, Alaska for two matches against top ranked University of Alaska, Fairbanks on Friday, October 11 (Tanana Valley Sportsman's Association) and Saturday, October 12 (UAF Patty Center).
