Feldman Earns Black Shirt, Big Ten/NCAA Wrestler of the Week

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Heavyweight Nick Feldman once again helped the Buckeyes win in dramatic fashion last week with a win in the final match of the night to give the Buckeyes a one-point win at the Covelli Center in Columbus. And once again, his efforts earned him the Big Ten Wrestler of the Week honor, the league announced Tuesday.Â
With the No. 7 Buckeyes trailing No. 13 Michigan 19-17 with seven minutes of wrestling to go in the heavyweight match, Feldman finished off an Ohio State comeback with a 4-3 win by decision over No. 4 Lucas Davison to give the Buckeyes three team points and the 20-19 win over the Wolverines.

Feldman orchestrated another come-from-behind win in the final bout against No. 8 Cornell Jan. 5 to help the Buckeyes win 21-20 and earn his first Big Ten Conference Wrestler of the Week award.
In addition to the league honor, Feldman was named the 16th Buckeye all-time and the ninth on the 2023-24 roster to earn "Black Shirt" status, Tom Ryan, head coach of the Ohio State wrestling Buckeyes, announced Monday.

The OSU Black Shirts
All OSU wrestlers training inside the Jennings Wrestling Facility began wearing gray shirts in 2019-20. Only those individuals deserving of elite distinction will be bestowed a 'black shirt' and earn the privilege of wearing black in The Jennings. Once donning a black shirt, a student-athlete then joins the coaching staff in determining future 'black shirt worthy' teammates.
Becoming a Black Shirt ...Â
* Rewards those who are doing things that in our program are non-negotiable - J Jaggers.Â
*Nominees must receive unanimous approval from coaching staff and current "Black Shirts"
* Must outwardly display a deep love for what you do -- elite discipline, grit, selflessness, excellence
