COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State women's hockey picked up two player of the month awards announced by the Western Collegiate Hockey Association Tuesday. Hadley Hartmetz was named the Defender of the Month and Raygan Kirk picked up Goaltender of the Month honors.
Â
Hartmetz and Kirk were key parts of the Buckeye defensive effort that held top-10 opponents to an average of .83 goals per game in January. The Buckeyes only allowed one goal in the first four games of the new calendar year.
Â
Kirk earned two shutouts in January, one against then-ranked No. 2 Minnesota and the second against No. 7 Minnesota Duluth. She played both games against the Gophers, only allowing one goal in the series. The Ste. Anne, Manitoba native made 66 saves in four games played for the Buckeyes, earning a .957 save percentage. With four wins in four starts in January, she is now 12-1-0 on the year and is tied for first in the WCHA with five shutouts this season.
Â
Hartmetz led Ohio State with a +11 on ice in six games played in January. She tallied a point in all but one game this month, including a goal in the Buckeyes' 6-1 win over Minnesota. The graduate student leads the Buckeye blue line that held the team's opponents, all top-10 teams, to an average of just .83 goals per game to improve to 6-0-0 in 2024. Â
Â
The Buckeyes play at the OSU Ice Rink Feb. 2-3 against Bemidji State. Tickets for Ohio State women's hockey home games can be purchased HERE.
