Feldman Delivers Late to Down Michigan 20-19 In Columbus

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- It came down to the final bout of the night at heavyweight before No. 7 Ohio State (12-1, 4-0) defeated No. 13 Michigan (5-3, 3-2) when Nick Feldman defeated No. 4 Lucas Davison 4-3 to give the Buckeyes the 20-19 win before a sellout crowd (4,759) at the Covelli Center in Columbus. Â

The Buckeyes were down early and trailed 13-6 after the first five matches. Ohio State's points in the first half came on six forfeit points at 141 when Michigan was not able to field a wrestler against No. 3 Jesse Mendez.Â
In the second half, senior Isaac Wilcox battled but lost a close one to give Michigan a 16-6 lead with four bouts to go.Â
Bryce Hepner, down 7-0, came back to win by decision 12-10 at 165.
True freshman Ryder Rogotzke was up next and he delivered an upset at 174 with a 21-0 win by technical fall over No. 15 Jaden Bullock. Redshirt freshman Luke Geog was up next at 197 and won by decision to cut the Michigan lead to 19-17.Â
Feldman then took the mat and delivered for the second time in the final bout of the night. He helped the Buckeyes beat Cornell earlier this year, 21-20, with a late takedown vs. the Big Red.Â

How it Happened
125-No. 14 Michael DeAugustino (UM) def. No. 24 Brendan McCrone (OSU) | TF, 16-1
After a lengthy early exchange that resulted in a stalemate after the first two minutes, DeAugustino got the first takedown for a 3-0 lead headed to the second. DeAugustino added a reversal and a four-point near fall and with a point for a technical violation (locked hands), Michigan took a 10-0 lead. McCrone got an escape before a DeAugistino takedown made it 13-1 going to the third. DeAugistino added a takedown for a 16-1 win by technical fall. Â
133-No. 4 Dylan Ragusin (UM) def. No. 12 Nic Bouzakis (OSU) | MD, 15-6
An early flurry resulted in a 4-2 lead for Ragusin after a UM takedown and Bouzakis reversal. Ragusin added a takedown for a 7-2 lead. Bouzakis got another reversal to make it 7-4 after three minutes. Bouzakis added an escape before a Ragusin takedown made it 10-5 Wolverines after five minutes. Ragusin escaped to open the third and added a takedown for a 14-5 advantage. Bouzakis escaped but Ragusin added a riding point for a 15-6 win by major decision.  Â

149-No. 6 Austin Gomez (UM) def. No. 9 Dylan D'Emilio (OSU) | MD, 17-6
Gomez scored first with a takedown before a D'Emilio escape made it 3-1 Wolverines. The lead increased to 9-3 after a pair of UM takedowns, D'Emilio escapes. Gomez escaped to open the third and the 10-3 lead held heading to the third. D'Emilio escaped before being called for stalling. Gomez added a takedown to make it 14-5 Michigan after a D'Emilio escape. Another UM takedown made it 17-6 for the win by major decision for the Wolverines.Â
157- No. 10 Will Lewan (UM) def. Isaac Wilcox (OSU) | TB2, 5-2
The first three minutes ended with no score. Lewan escaped to open the second for a 1-0 lead. Wilcox tied it with an escape of his own in the third to send the match to sudden victory. There was no scoring in the extra session. Wilcox got an escape in the first 30 seconds of overtime before a Lewan takedown made ti 4-2 Michigan. Lewan added an escape in the second tiebreaker session to win by decision, 5-2. Â
165-No. 21 Bryce Hepner (OSU) def. Beau Mantanona (UM) | D, 12-10
Mantanona got out to a 7-0 lead on a takedown and four-point near fall. Hepner got an escape and takedown to make it 7-4 Michigan after three minutes. Mantanona scored a reversal early in the second before a Hepner escape made it 9-5 Michigan after five minutes. Hepner got the reversal to open the third before a Mantanona escape made it 10-7. Hepner added a late takedown and a two-point nearfall to win by decision 12-10.Â

174- No. 4 Shane Griffith (Gr.) def. No. 11 Rocco Welsh (OSU) | D, 2-1
There was no score in the first. Griffith scored with an escape in the second. Welsh tied with a stalling call to head to the third even at 1-all. With a point for riding time, Griffith won by decision, 2-1.Â
184-Ryder Rogotzke (OSU) def. No. 15 Jaden Bullock (UM) | TF, 21-0
Rogotzke scored first with a takedown for a 3-0 lead. After an injury timeout for Michigan, Rogotzke chose down at the restart and escaped, got a takedown and a four-point nearfall for a 12-0 lead. With a point for stalling, Rogotzke went to the second with a 13-0 lead after three minutes. A quick escape made it 14-0 Buckeyes. A final takedown earned a 21-0 win by technical fall for Rogotzke.Â

197-No. 22 Luke Geog (OSU) def. Rylan Rogers (UM) | D, 9-4
Geog scored first with a takedown but was called for locked hands for a penalty point to make it 3-1 Buckeyes after just over 15 seconds gone in the first. Rogers added a point for an escape to got to the second down 3-2. Am escape early in the second by Rogers tied it at 3-all. Geog went back on top, 6-3, with a takedown to lead after five minutes. From down position, Geog got the reversal for an 8-3 lead early in the third. Rogers escaped to make it 8-4 Buckeyes but with a point for riding time, Geog got the win by decision, 9-5.Â

HWT-No. 16 Nick Feldman (OSU) def. No. 4 Lucas Davison (UM) | D, 4-3
Neither wrestler was able to score in the first. Feldman started from bottom to open the second and earned a stalling point for a 1-0 lead after five minutes. Davison escaped to tie it at 1-all before a Feldman takedown made it 4-2 Buckeyes. Feldman won the bout 4-3 to give the Buckeyes the 20-19 win over the Wolverines. Â
