Had a career-high 13 tackles in Saturday’s 17-14 win at No. 9 Notre Dame
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State safety Lathan Ransom has been named the Big Ten's Defensive Player of the Week, the conference office announced today.
A senior from Tucson, Ariz., Ransom finished with a career-high 13 tackles on Saturday night in Ohio State's dramatic 17-14 win at No. 9 Notre Dame. He also added a quarterback hurry as the Ohio State defense limited Notre Dame to 175 yards passing and forced a punt on the Irish's second-to-last drive of the game. That defensive stand was followed by the Buckeyes' game-winning touchdown drive.
Through four games, Ransom is tied for the team lead among defensive backs with 20 tackles. He's also added a quarterback hurry, a forced fumble and 0.5 tackles for loss for a defense that ranks fifth nationally in passing defense (149.0 yards allowed per game) and 18th in pass efficiency defense (104.2). Ohio State has surrendered just two passing touchdowns this season.
The Buckeyes, who moved up two spots in this week's Associated Press poll to No. 4, have an off week before returning to action on Saturday, Oct. 7 against Maryland at Ohio Stadium.
