ATHENS, Ga. – The Ohio State women's golf team is in second place following the first round of NCAA Regionals on Monday. The Buckeyes shot an even 288 on the day.
"I was just telling them that sticking to our process all season long has been our key to success," said head coach Lisa Strom following the completion of the first round. "Just based on body language, when you are looking around and heads are up, when they are smiling and waving, it's always a good sign. It was a lot of good course management. We put in a lot of good, hard work the last couple weeks from our home tournament through our conference championships. We don't have to do anything different than we have been doing all season."
Caley McGinty led the Buckeyes, firing a two-under 70 in the first round of play. She is tied for fourth place.
"I thought I played well today," said McGinty. "I hit it pretty well off the tee, which I was quite happy with. I was solid inside six feet, which I have been working on. I feel like I managed myself quite well."
Jillian Bourdage and Aneka Seumanuata each carded an even 72 on the day. They are tied for 13th place.
Kary Hollenbaugh is tied for 24th place. She carded a 74 (+2) in round one.
Lauren Peter rounded out the Ohio State quintet; she shot 75 (+3) and is tied for 30th place.
The second round of NCAA Regionals is Tuesday, May 9 and the third and final round is on Wednesday, May 10.
