
Buckeyes No. 10 Seed in NCAA Tournament, Set to Host Matches this Weekend

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s tennis team has been selected the No. 10 seed in the 2023 NCAA Championship and will host first and second round matches this weekend at the Auer Tennis Complex.
The Buckeyes are 20-7 overall and coming off a runner-up appearance at the Big Ten Tournament. The squad was 10-1 in Big Ten play and finished second in the league regular season standings.
Ohio State will face Xavier, the Big East champion, with the other first-round matchup between Vanderbilt, an at-large selection out of the SEC, and Southern Conference champion ETSU. The winner of the Columbus site will advance to a single-elimination super regional on a campus site. The final three rounds of the tournament will be at the USTA National Campus in Orlando.
The first-round matches in Columbus will be Friday, with the Commodores and Buccaneers meeting at 10 a.m., followed by the Buckeyes and Musketeers at 1 p.m. The first-round winners will meet at 4 p.m. Saturday for a spot in the Round of 16. Ohio State is a dual gender NCAA site. Saturday the No. 3 seeded Buckeye men will host first-round matches at 10 a.m. (Louisville vs. Texas Tech) and 1 p.m. (Ohio State vs. ETSU) and the second-round match at noon Sunday.
Matches are set to be played outside at the Auer Tennis Complex. In the event of inclement weather, play will be moved inside the Ty Tucker Tennis Center. Ohio State NCAA History
The Buckeyes are making the ninth consecutive and 19th overall NCAA Tournament appearance in program history. The team also hosted in 2016, 2017, 2021 and 2022 and is 7-1 at home in NCAA action.
The Buckeyes’ first NCAA appearance was in 1996. The squad qualified six years in a row from 1999-04, had a three-year stretch from 2008-10 and began the most recent streak in 2014, with no tournament held in 2020.
Buckeyes vs. the 2023 Columbus Teams
Ohio State is 4-0 all-time vs. Xavier, including a 6-1 win in Columbus last season. The Buckeyes have never faced ETSU. Against Vanderbilt, the Buckeyes are 5-2. The teams met in the second round of the NCAA Tournament in Columbus the last two seasons. Ohio State won the 2021 matchup 4-3 and the Commodores were victorious in 2022, 4-2. Last year, Xavier and Vanderbilt met in Columbus in the first round.
Ohio State is one of four Big Ten teams in the NCAA field, along with Michigan, Illinois and Wisconsin.
