COLUMBUS, Ohio –Topped-seeded Ohio State waited out a pre-match rain delay and then took care of host Indiana 4-0 on Friday morning in the quarterfinals of the Big Ten Tournament.
The Buckeyes have won their 12th-consecutive match and advances to Saturday’s semifinals to face Illinois.
Beating a team twice in a week is sometimes a difficult task but the Buckeyes had little trouble taking down Indiana a second time in six days. Ohio State won 7-0 in Columbus on Sunday and wasted little time in advancing on Friday. The Buckeyes won the doubles point in 20 minutes and clinched the singles point in just over an hour.
Doubles
- The Buckeyes mixed up the doubles lineup a bit on Friday and success still followed. All three teams took 2-0 leads to open each match and they would clinch the doubles point in just over 20 minutes.
- Cannon Kingsley and James Trotter were the first done as they beat Patrick Fletchall and Ilya Tiraspolsky 6-1 on court one. That improved Kingsley and Trotter to 3-0 on the season.
- Justin Boulais and Andrew Lutschaunig provided the clinching point as they paired together for the first time and blanked Sam Landu and Jagger Saylor 6-0 on court two.
- Robert Cash and JJ Tracy were on their way to victory as well as they were leading 4-2 when the point was secured.
Singles
- Despite the teams playing just five days ago, there were no rematches in the six singles matches.
- Justine Boulais was the first to post a singles win as he quickly rolled past Luka Vukovic 6-2, 6-0 on court two. He is now 12-5 in dual singles matches this season.
- Freshman Alexander Bernard continued his stellar first season with a 6-3, 6-3 win over junior Ilya Tiraspolsky on court four. He did not lose a singles match in Big Ten play and has not lost since March 8.
- The clinching point came from Kingsley on court one. He took down Fletchall 6-3, 6-4 for his 16th victory on the season.
- JJ Tracy was up a break in the second set of his match at No. 3 singles while James Trotter and Jack Anthrop were both on serve in their second sets.
Up Next
- Ohio State advances to the semifinals on Saturday morning and will face Illinois for the fourth time this season. The Buckeyes have beaten the Illini each of the first three times and will look for another win on Saturday. First serve is set for 11 a.m.
