Three Buckeyes Earn All-Big Ten Second Team Honors in Event Finals

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 7 Ohio State men’s gymnastics team (11-10, 1-3 B1G) wrapped up the 2023 Big Ten Championships on Saturday night in Covelli with the individual event finals.
Donovan Hewitt (rings), Kameron Nelson (vault) and Caden Spencer (high bar) all earned a spot on the All-Big Ten Second Team.
How it Happened
- Floor: Kazuki Hayashi earned a season-best 14.100 in the first routine of the evening and finished sixth overall. Kameron Nelson had a 13.925 to finish right behind Hayashi in seventh. Jesse Pakele wrapped up the Buckeyes’ showing in 10th place with a score of 13.350.
- Pommel horse: Parker Thackston earned a 13.575, which was good for fifth place.
- Rings: Donovan Hewitt’s 14.175 saw him finish in second, holding the top score until the very last competitor.
- Vault: Nelson earned a 14.625 to finish third overall.
- High bar: Caden Spencer earned a 14.275 and stuck his dismount to finish fourth. Hayashi earned a 13.925 with a stuck dismount to finish eighth – less than one-tenth off his personal-best.

Head Coach Rustam Sharipov: “I’m really happy that our young team could gain experience as part of the Big Ten Championships this weekend and gain confidence moving forward as there were no big mistakes today. We know the little things we need to work on to finish the postseason. I’m really proud of our team!”
