
Ohio State Advances to NCAA Regional Final

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 16 seed Ohio State women's gymnastics team is headed to Saturday's NCAA Regional Final in Norman, Okla. In a meet that came down to the final rotation, the Buckeyes earned a team score of 197.350 to finish second in Thursday night's NCAA Normal Regional Second Round, .075 ahead of third-place Arkansas.
Ohio State's final team score is its best score on the road this season and highest NCAA regional score in program history. The score bests the program's previous record, earned last season, by .425.
The Buckeyes advance to the NCAA regional final for the second time in the last three seasons, with their last Sweet 16 appearance in 2021.
MEET NOTES
- Ohio State started the meet off strong, recording a meet-high 49.525 on floor in the opening rotation. Lexi Edwards tied for first overall with a 9.950. Ella Hodges (9.925) and Claire Gagliardi (9.900) added 9.900s for the Buckeyes. The team also counted 9.875s from Payton Harris and Tory Vetter.
- In the second rotation, the Buckeyes earned the second-best vault score of the night with a 49.275. In her first NCAA regional appearance, Harris finished second overall with a 9.925. Edwards tied for ninth with a 9.875 while Sydney Jennings recorded a 9.850. The Buckeyes only counted scores 9.800 or higher as Raina Malas earned a 9.825 and Vetter recorded a 9.800.
- Harris scored the highest for the Buckeyes on uneven bars with a career-high 9.900 on the apparatus. Riccardi earned a 9.900 for Ohio State while Edwards, Alexis Hankins and Emma Pritchard scored a 9.875, 9.850 and 9.800, respectively. The team finished with a score of 49.325.
- The final rotation of the night had the Buckeyes on beam, but Ohio State earned a 49.225 to secure the top-two finish and a ticket to the regional final. Vetter finished tied for third overall with a career-high tying 9.925. Harris tallied her third 9.900 of the night in the rotation. Hodges, Jennings and Pritchard all earned 9.800s.
- Harris won the all-around on Thursday night, earning a career-high 39.600 for the Buckeyes. The freshman led the second-place finisher by .075. She was second overall among all all-around competitors at the regional, including the first session. She was just .025 shy of the program record all-around score.
