Buckeyes Back to Winning Ways, Sweep UCF

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State got back in the win column with another solid 4-0 victory over UCF in Orlando on Wednesday afternoon.
The Buckeyes bounced back from just its second loss of the year last week, to improve to 16-2 on the season. This was the second win this season over UCF as the Buckeyes also won 4-0 in the ITA Kickoff on Jan. 28 in Columbus.
The win was also the Buckeyes’ first outdoor victory of the season and it came where they would they would like to see a few more victories. The match was played at the UTSA National Campus, site of the NCAA Championship later this spring.
Doubles
- The Knights claimed the first doubles victory with a win on court one but the Buckeyes rallied for a pair of wins on courts two and three to take the point.
- Cannon Kingsley and JJ Tracy beat Yassine Dlimi and Francisco Llanes 6-3 on court three for the first win.
- Robert Cash and Justin Boulais continued their good season as they provided the point with a 6-4 win over Paul Colin and Cooper White
Singles
- In singles, Ohio State won all five first sets and claimed complete control.
- Freshman Jack Anthrop with first off the courts as he finished in dominant style with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Llanes. That was his ninth win of the season.
- 26 ranked James Trotter was not far behind him as he took down Liam Branger 6-2, 6-1 to improve to 15-0 on the season.
- The clinching point came on court one from Justin Boulais. The Canadian beat No. 105 Bogdan Pavel 6-2, 6-4 and the Buckeyes were back in the win column.
- Cannon Kingsley and JJ Tracy each split their first two sets on courts two and three while Alexander Bernard won his opening set 6-4 and was on serve at 2-3 when the match was halted.
Up Next
- Ohio State returns home from its spring break trip and will host one of its biggest matches of the season this Sunday. The Buckeyes will take on No. 5 Michigan at 2 p.m. This will be a non-conference match and the first of two regular season meetings this season.
