COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame announced on Wednesday that Ohio State freshman Brice Sensabaugh has been named one of the Top 10 candidates for the 2023 Julius Erving Award.
Named after Class of 1993 Hall of Famer and 16-year professional basketball player Julius Erving, the annual honor in its ninth year recognizes the top small forwards in Division I men’s college basketball.
Sensabaugh has been one of the best freshmen in the country this season. He is leading the team in scoring at 17.3 points per game which is second among freshmen nationally. He has eight 20-point games this season and is also second on the team at 5.6 rebounds per game. The Orlando, Fla., native has three double-doubles and is averaging more than seven rebounds per game since Jan. 1. Sensabaugh is looking to become the first Buckeye freshmen to lead the team in scoring since D’Angelo Russell in 2015.
Fans can support their favorite players in the remaining rounds by participating in Fan Voting, presented by Dell Technologies, starting Friday, Feb. 10, on hoophallawards.com. The Fan Vote will count as one committee vote during the finalist selection process.
In March, five finalists will be presented to Erving and the Hall of Fame’s selection committee. The Selection Committee for the Julius Erving Award is composed of top men’s college basketball personnel including media members, head coaches, sports information directors and Hall of Famers.
