COLUMBUS, Ohio – Week in and week out, Buckeye student-athletes raise the standard of excellence set at Ohio State, whether that be in competition, in the classroom, or in the community. ‘Buckeye Spotlight’ recognizes student-athletes who had noteworthy accomplishments both in contests and beyond the box score.
Throughout the 50th anniversary of Title IX, Ohio State Athletics continues to celebrate exceptional female student-athletes and women’s teams throughout history, highlighting a new moment or person every week. Here are this week’s Buckeye Spotlight student-athletes:
Taylor Thierry | Women’s Basketball | So. | Cleveland, Ohio
- Sophomore guard/forward Taylor Thierry continued to lead the Buckeyes last week, averaging 23.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.0 steals per game to lead OSU in all categories. She also went 13-of-17 (.765) from the floor and was a perfect 4-of-4 from long range after going 4-of-20 during the season before this week.
- Thierry led all scorers with a career-high 25 points in the Buckeyes’ win at Wisconsin, also grabbing a game-high seven rebounds and shooting 7-of-8 (.875). At No. 8/9 Maryland, Thierry led the Buckeyes with 21 points and seven rebounds, going 3-of-3 from three-point range. These were her fourth and fifth 20-point games of the season, scoring 20+ back-to-back for the first time in her career.
- This season, Thierry is averaging 13.7 points (20th in Big Ten) and a team-high 6.9 rebounds per game (ninth in Big Ten) and is shooting 65 percent from the field (third in Big Ten). She’s increased her production to 14.8 points (15th in Big Ten) and 8.1 rebounds per game (seventh in Big Ten) in conference play.

Jack Myers | Men’s Lacrosse | Sr. | Bethesda, Md.
- Jack Myers recorded a team-high nine points in the Buckeyes’ 15-7 season-opening win over Air Force.
- He tallied four goals on the day, the first of which was the first goal to be scored in an official contest at Ohio State Lacrosse Stadium.
- The Buckeyes’ captain surpassed the 200 points for his career on Saturday, becoming the sixth player in program history to hit the mark. He has now scored 203 points for his career.
Akemi Von Scherr | Women’s Track & Field | Jr. | Laquinta, Calif.
- Akemi Von Scherr won the women’s 3000m at the Notre Dame Meyo Invitational, finishing in 9:37.83 and beating the runner-up by almost five seconds.
- This was a personal-best time for Von Scherr as she out-did her previous PR by nearly 20 seconds.

Luke Geog | Wrestling | Fr. | Upper Arlington, Ohio
- Made first Big Ten dual competition appearance at Northwestern at 197 lbs.
- Improved to 8-0 on the season with a 9-5 win by decision over NU graduate student Andrew Davison
- Never trailed in the match vs. Davison
- Owns Open titles this year at the MSU and Blue Raider events

Dasha Myroniuk | Fencing | Fr. | Kiev, Ukraine
- Dasha Myroniuk led the Buckeyes with 22 overall victories as the women’s squad was 12-0 at the Northwestern Duals over the weekend and the Buckeye men were 8-0.
- The foilist was 12-1 on day one when the Buckeye women were 7-0 and then posted a 10-4 mark on day two as the squad was 5-0, with three team wins over ranked teams. She posted two victories in each of the five team matches Sunday.
- Up next for Myroniuk, who placed 37th at the Mazars International Challenge of Paris in January, and the No. 6-ranked Buckeye women is the Central Collegiate Fencing Conference Championships in Columbus Feb. 25-26.

Irina Cantos Siemers | Women’s Tennis | Graduate | Brussels, Belgium
- Irina Cantos Siemers was a team-best 4-0 in singles and doubles combined as the Buckeyes posted two Top 20 wins last week.
- The two-time All-American, who earned her bachelor’s degree in communication in December, posted straight-set wins at No. 2 singles vs. No. 19 Oklahoma State and No. 5 Georgia. She was also 2-0 in doubles, pairing with Akanksha Bhan vs. the Cowgirls and Sydni Ratliff against the Bulldogs, with their win clinching the doubles point.
- The two wins moved the No. 11-ranked Buckeyes to 5-0 this season as they head to the ITA National Team Indoor Championship in Seattle this week, where they will take on many of the nation’s best teams.

James Trotter | Men’s Tennis | Sr. | Hyogo, Japan
- James went 4-0 last week, leading the No. 2 Buckeyes to sweeps of No. 23 Texas A&M and No. 6 Texas
- All four of his wins came against ranked opponents. He rolled past No. 43 Trey Hilderbrand of Texas A&M and then beat No. 13 Siem Woldeab of Texas
- He also teamed with Andrew Lutschaunig to beat the No. 7 and No. 33 ranked doubles teams
- On the year, James is 8-0 in singles matches
Samuel Clark | Men’s Volleyball | Sr. | Baltimore, Maryland
- Helped the Buckeyes to a split at the Big Ten/Pac 12 Challenge last weekend in State College, Pa.
- Ohio State knocked off No. 10 USC and lost to No. 2 UCLA
- Totaled 28 kills, 10 digs and three blocks for a total of 29.5 points
