COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 1 Ohio State women’s hockey team heads to Madison, Wis. this weekend for the 2022-23 regular season finale against No. 6 Wisconsin. The Buckeyes (27-3-2, 22-3-1 WCHA) and Badgers (22-8-2, 18-6-2 WCHA) face off at 4 p.m. Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday from LaBahn Arena with both games streamed on B1G+ (subscription required).
Buckeyes in a Nutshell
- Last weekend, Ohio State swept St. Thomas to close out the regular season home slate. The Buckeyes defeated the Tommies 6-1 in game one and earned a 5-0 shutout win on Senior Day. Senior Teagan Grant recorded her first career goal and senior goaltender Quinn Kuntz earned the shutout to remain undefeated for her career in the win.
- Jenn Gardiner’s team point lead has stretched to nine. She has recorded 49 points on the year with 18 goals and 31 assists. The Surrey, B.C. native ranks fourth nationally in points and sixth in points per game (1.53). She is now seventh in the Ohio State record book with her 31 assists.
- Gardiner has tallied 16 multi-point games this season for the Buckeyes, including six of the last eight games.
- Paetyn Levis has scored a team-high 21 goals this year. She ranks seventh nationally in goals scored. The graduate forward is three goals from tying her career-best 24 goals in a single season.
- Gabby Rosenthal has scored a goal in each of the Buckeyes’ last four games. She is second in the country in goals per game (.73) this year.
- Goaltender Amanda Thiele leads the Buckeye goaltending unit with 14 wins on the year. She has a .905 save percentage in 17 games played this season. Raygan Kirk has seen action in 11 games, winning eight and posting a .912 save percentage. Thiele is fourth nationally and first in the WCHA with a .906 win percentage.
- Ohio State is back atop both national polls this week. In the USCHO.com poll, the Buckeyes are receiving 19 of 20 first place votes and 299 overall points. In the USA Today/ USA Hockey Magazine poll, the team has 16 of 19 first-place votes and 282 points overall.
- Ohio State enters the final weekend of the regular season first in the WCHA standings with 66 points. The Buckeyes lead second-place Minnesota by three points. The team needs three points to claim a share of the regular season title. In the WCHA, three points are awarded for a win with two points being awarded for an overtime win or shootout win and one point awarded for an overtime loss or shoot out loss.
- The Buckeyes rank second in the country with 144 goals on the year. The team is scoring an average of 4.50 goals per game and beating its opponents by a 2.78 goal differential.
- Ohio State is recording a league-high 42.53 shots on goal per game.
- The WCHA announced its 2022-23 academic awards this week. Every Buckeye who satisfied the residency requirement of the award, 18 total, earned All-Academic team honors for achieving GPAs of 3.00 or higher. Fourteen of those student-athletes were also named WCHA Scholar-Athletes for GPAs of 3.5 and higher.

- Ohio State enters this weekend series at Wisconsin 2-0 over the Badgers this season.
- The Buckeyes opened the 2023 calendar year against Wisconsin at the OSU Ice Rink, earning a 2-1 overtime win in game one and a 5-0 shutout in game two.
- Ohio State has won their last five matchups against Wisconsin and has won 12 of their 22 victories over the Badgers in program history during head coach Nadine Muzerall’s tenure.
