
Ohio State Tops No. 5 Virginia 4-1

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Just like Thursday, No. 1 Ohio State dropped the doubles point but battled back to win four singles matches and defeat a Top 10 team. The victim on Saturday was No. 5 Virginia.
After losing the doubles point, the Buckeyes got wins on courts four, five and six and then just like Thursday at Wake Forest, Justin Boulais provided the clinching point on court two.
This was the Buckeyes’ third consecutive win over a Top 10 opponent, topping No. 6 Texas last Sunday, No. 9 Wake Forest on Thursday and No. 5 Virginia on Sunday. Ohio State is a perfect 11-0 on the season.
Doubles
- On court 1, the Virginia due of Chris Rodesch and Bar Botzer went up a break at 4-3 and went on to top Andrew Lutschaunig and James Trotter 6-4.
- Court 2 was on serve through 5-5 but Virginia broke to take a 6-5 lead and held for the 7-5 win to clinch the doubles point.
- Court three, Virginia went up a break at 4-2 but then JJ Tracy Tracy and Jack Anthrop broke right back. However, Virginia broke again to go up 5-3. After an OSU hold, the Buckeyes stayed alive with another break to even the match at 5-5 and was serving up 6-5 when the point was clinched.
Singles
- Robert Cash was the first off the court. He got the first break and would go on to win the first set 6-3. He then followed with a 6-4 victory in set two and is now 9-0 on the season.
- James Trotter was on serve with Ryan Goetz through 6-5 and then broke Goetz to win the first set 7-5. He then went up a break and served it out for a 6-3 victory. He too remains perfect in singles play at 10-0.
- The Buckeyes went up 3-1 as freshman Jack Anthrop pulled out an impressive three-set victory on court five. He rolled in the first set 6-1 but Virginia’s Alexander Kiefer won the first three games of the second set and would go on to win 6-2. In the third, Anthrop broke for a 3-2 lead and then broke again to finish the set and the match 6-3.
- Boulais provided the clinching point in Thursday’s win at Wake Forest and would again on Saturday. He dropped the opening set 6-3 but just like on court five, Boulais responded to win the first three games of the second set. He went on to win 6-1 and force a deciding set. He remained on serve through 4-4 and got a big break to go up 5-4. He then won a deuce point to finish the match 6-4.
- Freshman Alexander Bernard lost the first set but showed grit to respond with a second set victory.
- JJ Tracy was battling in the second set on court one with Inaki Montes when the match was clinched.

- Ohio State returns home this week to take on No. 10 Baylor on Tuesday evening a the Ty Tucker Tennis Center. First serve is set for 6 p.m.
