COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State opens the spring portion of the schedule on Sunday as the Buckeyes play in the Puerto Rico Open at the Grand Reserve Country Club in Rio Grande, P.R. The 54-hole event will run from Sunday through Tuesday with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start each day.
- Ohio State’s lineup this week will consist of Adam Wallin, Maxwell Moldovan, JonErik Alford, Neal Shipley and Jackson Chandler. Tyler Groomes will play this week as an individual.
- The Grand Reserve Country Club is the site of the PGA Tour’s Puerto Rico Open, which will take place from March 2-5. The individual medalist of the Puerto Rico Classic will receive an invite to the PGA Tour event.
- The Buckeyes a win in their last event of the fall at the Cal Poly Collegiate. Ohio State beat fellow Big Ten foe Northwestern by three shots for its second title of the calendar year.
- Ohio State is ranked No. 24 in both the Golfstat Rankings and Golfweek Coaches Poll.
- Adam Wallin claimed the second medalist honors of his career at the Cal Poly Collegiate, firing rounds of 69-68-69 to finish at 10-under par. Wallin had three Top 20 finishes in four fall events and was second on the team with a 72.08 scoring averaging.
- Maxwell Moldovan finished in the Top 15 in all four events in the fall and leads the way with a 70.67 scoring average. He was named to the Haskins Award Final Fall Watch List as well as the Ben Hogan Watch List.
- Alford and Chandler both played three of the four events in the fall and only one stroke separated them through those events. Alford was 21st at the Cal Poly Invitational while Jackson posted a T24 for his best finish of the fall at the Hamptons Intercollegiate.
- Shipley, who is in his first season with the team, played in all four events in the fall and finished with his best tournament at the Cal Poly Invitational, posting a 1-under 215.
- Groomes will be playing in his second event of the spring. He carded back-to-back rounds of 1-under 71 to close the Thomas Sharkey Individual Collegiate earlier this month to finish tied for 17th.
- The weather forecast for the event looks amazing with temperatures in the mid-80s with very little chance of rain.
