COLUMBUS, Ohio — Graduation Success Rate data released Wednesday by the NCAA shows Ohio State's student-athletes and athletics programs have continued to post outstanding results academically. In the most recent report, the Buckeyes recorded school-best single-year and four-year rolling scores.Â
Â
The Buckeyes' single-year score of 94 is the highest in school history, topping the 93 recorded in 2021. The scores from the last three years – 94/92/93 – mark the best three-year stretch for the university and the four-year rolling score (2013-16) is an all-time best 93.
Â
The NCAA established the GSR in 2002 as a means of understanding student-athletes' academic completion rates more concretely. It does so by accounting for two groups that play an increasingly prominent role in collegiate athletics: mid-year, first-time enrollees and transfers. This year's numbers include the 2013-14 to 2016-17 freshman cohorts.
Â
"This year's GSR report gives strong evidence of priority placed on academic success by OSU's student-athletes," Faculty Athletics Representative John E. Davidson said. "Attaining all-time highs in both the single-year (94) and multi-year (93) scores shows that their dedication in the classroom is on par with their competitive success."
Â
Eleven teams had a GSR of 100: women's cross country/track and field, women's fencing, field hockey, men's golf, women's golf, women's lacrosse, women's soccer, synchronized swimming, men's tennis, women's tennis and men's volleyball.
Â
In addition, 13 programs had GSR scores of 90 or better: baseball, women's basketball, men's cross country/track and field, men's gymnastics, women's gymnastics, men's ice hockey, women's ice hockey, men's lacrosse, rifle, men's soccer, men's swimming and diving, women's swimming and women's volleyball.
Â
"The importance of academic achievement is at the heart of the Ohio State athletics culture," Davidson said. "It starts at the top, articulated and reinforced by Athletics Director Gene Smith, and resonates throughout the organization, from the way coaches recruit to the passionate commitment of the academic support staff in SASSO."
In all, 13 of 16 men's teams and 14 of 15 women's teams categorized in the report improved or maintained their GSR. Additionally, 13 men's teams and 15 women's teams categorized in the report improved or maintained their single-year score.
Â
The football program had its program-best score with an 87, passing the 86 set last year. Â
