COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Four Buckeyes have been selected captains for the 2023-24 Ohio State men's hockey team, head coach Steve Rohlik announced Friday. Scooter Brickey and Patrick Guzzo will wear the captain's C, while Matt Cassidy and Cam Thiesing will serve as alternate captains.
"We are excited to have these four as our leadership group," Rohlik, in his 11th year at the helm, said. "It is always an honor and a privilege to wear a letter and be recognized by your teammates. We are looking forward to seeing them lead this year's team."
Brickey, a fifth-year student in his second year at Ohio State, is a defenseman from Burtchville, Mich. He has skated in 99 collegiate games, with 24 points on six goals and 18 assists, along with 118 shot blocks.
"Being voted as a captain by everyone in the locker room is truly something special," Brickey said. "Knowing they trust me with this huge honor and to lead them in the battle every day is something I look forward to. There have been tons of great leaders to come out of Ohio State and joining them has always been a goal of mine."
Guzzo, a senior forward and native of Marysville, Mich., has played in 97 games for the Scarlet and Gray and has scored 17 goals, adding 14 assists for 31 points. He is a three-time Ohio State Scholar-Athlete and two-time Academic All-Big Ten choice.
"It's an honor and a privilege to be selected as a captain for this team," Guzzo said. "There have been great leaders before me that have shown the way, like Austin Pooley, Will Riedell, Jake Wise, Gustaf Westland and Jaedon Leslie. I learned so much from them. It's a pretty special feeling knowing that 25 of your brothers chose you to be a leader."

Cassidy, a graduate student in his fifth year, has seen action in 79 collegiate games, with four goals and 17 assists for 21 points. He earned his bachelor's degree in economics in the spring and is a three-time Ohio State Scholar-Athlete and two-time Academic All-Big Ten choice.
"It's an honor and a privilege to wear a letter on your chest at a school like The Ohio State University," Cassidy said. "What truly means the most is that the individuals in the room selected me and trust they can turn to me through the ups and downs, knowing I'll have their backs."

Thiesing, a junior forward from Nashville, had a team-best 15 goals last season. He has a 23-22-56 line in 77 games played for the Buckeyes.
"I'm very grateful the team has that faith in me," Thiesing said. "I'm excited to get started this year with all of the new guys."
The 2023-24 Buckeyes open their season with a game at Mercyhurst at 7 p.m. Saturday. Next weekend, the squad will host Lindenwood Oct. 13-14 in Value City Arena to kick off the home slate.
