Pechota Named Big Ten Offensive POW

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Luciano Pechota, a sophomore midfielder from Avon, Ohio, was named the Big Ten's Offensive Player of the Week Tuesday by the league office.

Pechota scored twice, including the match winner, at previously unbeaten and No. 16-ranked Michigan State last week to help the Buckeyes finish the regular season on a two-match win streak. Ohio State knocked off Maryland 4-1 Sunday.

Pechota scored the first goal of the game against the Spartans in the 25th minute to help send the Buckeyes to the half with a 2-0 lead. After the Spartans evened the score at 2-all in the 74', Pechota netted the match-winner in the 87' for the road victory.

The Buckeyes will face the Spartans again this week in the quarterfinals of the Big Ten Tournament in East Lansing, Michigan, Friday (6:30 p.m./B1G+). The Buckeyes enter the tournament as the No. 6 seed while Michigan State opens at No. 3.

In addition to Pechota's award, the Buckeyes were named the NCAA Soccer Team of the Week for season-ending wins at Michigan State and in the home final vs. Maryland.
