COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State women's hockey student athletes Jocelyn Amos and Jenn Gardiner earned WCHA weekly awards after helping the Buckeyes sweep No. 4 Minnesota last weekend at the OSU Ice Rink. The conference announced Monday Amos as Rookie of the Week and Gardiner as Forward of the Week.
Gardiner picked up her first weekly award of the year, and the Buckeyes' first forward of the week award this season, with a team-high six points against Minnesota. She tallied a team-best three goals and added three assists in the top-five matchup. The Surrey, B.C. native recorded her first multi-goal game of the season in Friday's game with two goals, including the overtime game-winner to push Ohio State past Minnesota, 4-3. She also scored the Buckeyes' second goal of the second game to erase a 2-0 Gopher lead and help the team to a 6-5 win for the conference sweep.
Gardiner finished the weekend +6 and was on the ice for nine of Ohio State's 10 goals in the series. She is now second on the team with 12 points this year.
Amos, a freshman from Ailsa Craig, Ontario, earns her first league award after a three-point performance against the Gophers. She scored two of the Buckeyes' six goals in Saturday's 6-5 win, including the team's first of the game and the third goal, which gave Ohio State its first lead of the day. She also assisted Gardiner's game-winning goal on Friday. On the faceoff, she led the team with 35 wins and finished the weekend .593 from the faceoff dot.
Amos has tallied a point in three of the last four games for the Buckeyes and leads her class with three goals and two assists this year.
The Buckeyes continue conference play this weekend at Bemidji State Nov. 3-4. The teams meet at 7 p.m. ET Friday and 4 p.m. ET from the Sanford Center in Bemidji, Minn. Both games will be streamed on B1G+ (subscription required).
