… And freshman Jermaine Matthews Jr. is national Freshman of the Week
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. has been named the Maxwell Award Player of the Week for his terrific performance against Penn State and its No. 1 ranted defense last week. Harrison Jr. had earlier in the week been honored as the Big Ten Conference co-Offensive Player of the Week.
In a 20-12 win over No. 7 Penn State on Sunday, Harrison Jr. caught a career-high 11 passes for 162 yards and had a game-winning 18-yard TD reception in the fourth quarter that gave the Buckeyes a 20-6 lead. Nine of Harrison Jr.'s 11 receptions resulted in first downs. He also became the first player in program history to have five games of 160 or more yards receiving.
Through seven games this season, Harrison Jr. has top-10 national rankings in receiving yards per game (seventh – 109.4) and receiving yards (seventh – 766). His string of three consecutive 100-yard receiving games is two shy of the school record, which was set by Cris Carter in 1986, and he enters Saturday's game at Wisconsin with season totals of 42 receptions, 766 yards and six touchdowns.

Jermaine Matthews Jr. Honored
The College Football Network has named freshman CB Jermaine Matthews Jr. as its national Freshman of the Week for Week 8.
Mathews played the most defensive snaps of his career against Penn State, 49 with star corner Denzel Burke out, and contributed three unassisted tackles and a pass break-up in Ohio State's Top 10 win over No. 7 Penn State, 20-12. His fine play, especially in man-to-man coverage, helped limit Penn State to just 191 passing yards off 42 attempts.
Matthews' had a pass break-up on a third down play midway through the third quarter with Ohio State clinging to a 10-6 lead. He also made a third-down stop in the fourth quarter to force a Penn State punt.
"He's a baller and he's fearless," linebacker Cody Simon said about Matthews after the game. "I don't know if I'm making those plays as a freshman. How he stepped up is all about competitive excellence."
The No. 3-ranked Buckeyes (7-0, 4-0 Big Ten) travel to Madison, Wisc., on Saturday night to take on Wisconsin (5-2, 3-1 Big Ten). The game will be televised on NBC.
