COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 2 Ohio State women's hockey team won its first WCHA game of the season with a 5-2 victory over No. 6 Minnesota Duluth in Duluth, Minn. Friday afternoon. Graduate defenseman Hadley Hartmetz scored a hattrick as the Buckeyes (2-1-0, 1-0-0 WCHA) earned their second ranked win of the year.

Graduate defenseman Hadley Hartmetz scored a hattrick as the Buckeyes (2-1-0, 1-0-0 WCHA) earned their second ranked win of the year.

How it Happened
- Despite Minnesota Duluth hitting the scoreboard first, scoring 3:07 into the first period, Ohio State dominated the opening frame with sustained possession in the offensive zone and outshooting the Bulldogs, 21-7.
- After the Minnesota Duluth goal, Ohio State only allowed one more shot on goal in the period and held the Bulldogs without a shot for the last 9:39 of the frame.
- Hadley Hartmetz took the Buckeye lead into her own hands, scoring two goals in 1:32. She capitalized on the Ohio State power play with a man-up goal at 16:18. She followed that up with another tally at 17:50 to push the Buckeyes into the lead.
- Ohio State refused to give up a shot on goal for almost 19 minutes, with Minnesota Duluth's first shot on target coming 3:47 into the second period after landing their final of the first period at 5:19.
- Jenna Bulgioni scored a shorthanded goal at 5:30, 1:18 into a Minnesota Duluth power play, to extend the Buckeye lead to two goals.
- Ohio State's special teams excelled, finishing 6-for-6 on the penalty kill and going 1-for-2 on the power play, even killing off a 5-on-3 situation. Â
- The Bulldogs capitalized off a Buckeye turnover in front of Thiele at 12:36 in the second period but that was their final tally of the game. Â
- Sloane Matthews kept her goal streak alive, scoring Ohio State's fourth goal of the game at 3:57 into the third period.
- With both teams serving penalties for roughing in the final two minutes of the game, Minnesota Duluth pulled its goaltender for the extra-skater advantage. Seconds later, Hartmetz completed the hattrick with an empty net goal with 1:06 to play in the game.
- Hartmetz scored her first career hattrick in Friday's game, scoring the Buckeyes' first, second and fifth goals of the game. The Phoenixville, Pa. native also tallied the Buckeyes' lone power play goal of the game, her third of her career.
- Buglioni's shorthanded goal was the first of her career. The goal was also her seventh game-winning goal of her career, and second of the season. Friday's game also marked her 100th career game in the Scarlet & Gray.
- Jocelyn Amos, Joy Dunne and Olivia Mobley each recorded their first career points as a Buckeye with Mobley tallying two assists and Amos and Dunne adding one helper each. Overall, eight Buckeyes tallied a point on the day.
- The Buckeyes' 5-2 victory over Minnesota Duluth is the first time in eight meetings that the game has been decided by more than one goal. The last time the game was decided by more than one goal was when Ohio State defeated the Bulldogs, 3-1, Jan. 22, 2022 in Columbus.
- Amanda Thiele made 10 stops to earn her first win of the season. The senior improves to 41-8-1 in her Ohio State career with the win.
