Ohio State met with the media following Wednesday’s practice to discuss team progress ahead of Saturday’s competition against Toledo.
On his mentality shooting gaps:
“I’m just trying to wreak havoc, depending on what the call is, I’m just trying to fly around and disrupt stuff in the backfield, that’s kind of what I do.”
“I like how we play as a unit. I think we are all interconnected on each play, and we all know what we’re supposed to be doing. We’re all just locked in, flying around making plays.”
On expectations coming in as the top receiver out of high school:
“Once you get to college, rankings don’t matter at all. You’re here to put in work everyday and grind on your game. It’s like you’re a new freshman again, just like in high school. I didn’t really think too much about my ranking; I was just focused on getting better and doing as much as I could for my team.”
On his role with the potential return of Jaxon Smith-Njigba and Julian Fleming:
“My role on this team is whatever the coaches decide it to be. I’m going to fulfill it to the best of my ability and hopefully contribute to us winning a lot of games this year.”
On fixing their game heading into Saturday:
“Just go to practice. That’s the only thing that we can do. Scout period: we just make sure we’re taking it seriously…I feel like once we do that, once we take the scout reps into the game, I think that’s what’s helping us and leading us to be successful.”
On the environment in Ohio Stadium:
“I try to take it in, at least when I first go out there for the first warmup, but once I put my pads on, I just lock in totally.”
On how the o-line wants to be going forward:
“Our expectation as an offensive line unit is very high and the standard has been set by guys who have come before us. We have to be able to move the line of scrimmage and make sure not only CJ, but TreVeyon and those guys have their moments.”
