
Brady Koontz Earns Gold, Boykin Bronze at Pan Am Championships

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Brady Koontz, who just completed his redshirt junior season with the Buckeyes, won the Pan American Championships in the 55kg bracket to claim the 2022 Gold Medal in Greco-Roman. The competition was held May 5 in Acapulco, Mexico.
Nicholas Boykin, a redshirt sophomore in 2021-22, earned the bronze medal, finishing third in the 97kg Greco-Roman bracket.
Koontz went 2-0 in the event with a 9-0 win over Axel Andre Salas Esquivel of Mexico and an 11-0 victory vs. Brandon Jesus Escobar Amador of Honduras.
Boykin went 2-1 overall with wins over Eduardo Ivan Gajardo Meneses of Chile (Inj.) and Luis Gerardo Rivera Alvarado of Mexico (9-0).
Boykin recently won the 97kg Greco-Roman title at the Bill Farrell Memorial International Open with a 10-1 technical fall in the finals over Christian Rouleau (Minnesota Storm). The event was held in Cedar Falls, Iowa, April 1-2.
Koontz has a career record of 18-16 with the Buckeyes and won the 2021 Storm Open at 125 pounds with a 4-0 record.
