No. 11 Buckeyes Hit the Road for Two Matches

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 11 Ohio State women’s tennis team hits the road for its final regular season road matches this weekend. The Buckeyes will take on Minnesota at 4:30 p.m. ET Friday in Minneapolis, Minn., and face Wisconsin at 1 p.m. ET Sunday in Madison, Wis.

The Buckeyes enter the weekend 7-0 in Big Ten play and 14-4 overall. Minnesota is 2-5 in the league and 14-8 this season, with Wisconsin 5-2 in B1G action and 13-7 on the year.
Buckeyes vs. Gophers
- The Buckeyes are 24-25 all-time vs. the Gophers, with a 15-1 record in the last 16 meetings between the teams.
- The teams met in Columbus last year, a 4-0 Buckeye win April 9, 2021.
- The last meeting in Minneapolis was April 6, 2018, with the Gophers prevailing, 4-3.
- Minnesota, No. 62 in the ITA rankings this week, is 14-8 season overall and 2-5 in Big Ten play. The squad faced Wisconsin last weekend on the road, falling 4-3. Minnesota is 8-1 at home this spring.

- Ohio State is 19-31 all-time vs. Wisconsin but has won the last 16 matches between the teams.
- Last season, the teams met in Columbus April 11, 2021, with Ohio State winning 7-0. The last matchup in Madison was April 8, 2018, when the Buckeyes posted a 5-2 victory.
- Ohio State played three matches in Madison, Wis., in February during the ITA National Team Indoor Championships. The Buckeyes fell to North Carolina and defeated Florida and Auburn. The Buckeyes were also in Madison last spring for the Big Ten Tournament, where they posted three wins (vs. Michigan State, Iowa and Michigan) to capture the Big Ten postseason title.
- Wisconsin is ranked 44th by the ITA this week. Ava Markham is No. 85 in singles, with the duo of Xinyu Cai and Alina Mukhortova tied for 61st in the doubles rankings.
- The Badgers will host Penn State Friday before taking on the Buckeyes Sunday.

- Ohio State moved to No. 11 in the ITA team rankings this week, the first time it has been outside the Top 10 since Feb. 2.
- In the Tennis Channel/USTA College Tennis Top 25 this week, Ohio State is No. 10.
- Eight of the teams the Buckeyes have faced so far this season were ranked in the ITA Top 16 this week (five in the Top 10) – No. 1 North Carolina, No. 3 North Carolina State, No. 5 Pepperdine, No. 9 Duke, No. 10 Georgia, No. 12 Oklahoma State, No. 13 Auburn and No. 16 Florida.
- Three Buckeyes and a doubles team are in the ITA individual rankings released this week. Junior Irina Cantos Siemers is eighth, while senior Isabelle Boulais is No. 33 and freshman Sydni Ratliff is No. 63. The duo of Cantos Siemers and Ratliff is No. 21.
Buckeye This and That
- Ohio State extended its winning streak to six with two wins last weekend. The Buckeyes topped Northwestern in Columbus, 5-2, last Friday before a 4-0 road win over Purdue Sunday.
- Against Northwestern, the Buckeyes came from behind after losing the doubles point. Ohio State won five of the six first sets to take control and was able to close all five out. Irina Cantos Siemers, Isabelle Boulais, Sydni Ratliff, Kolie Allen and Luna Dormet all won in singles. Cantos Siemers and Lucia Marzal also paired up for a doubles victory.
- Against Purdue, the duos of Ratliff and Boulais and Marzal and Cantos Siemers won on courts one and two, respectively, for the doubles point and 1-0 lead. Madeline Atway, Marzal and Boulais each posted straight-set singles wins for the victory.
- Ohio State is the last remaining unbeaten team in the Big Ten with a 7-0 record. Northwestern is 7-1, with Michigan 6-1. Illinois (6-2) and Wisconsin (5-2) round out the Top 5.
- Cantos Siemers was named Big Ten Athlete of the Week after posting a singles win and two doubles victories last weekend.
- The Buckeyes are 5-3 on the road this year, with a 4-0 record in B1G matches away from Columbus.
- Cantos Siemers is 6-0 in Big Ten singles matches this spring, with Boulais 6-1 and Kolie Allen (4-1) and Ratliff (4-2) each posting four wins in B1G singles matches. In doubles, Cantos Siemers is again 6-0, while Lucia Marzal is 6-1 and Boulais is 5-1. Ratliff (4-2) and Kathleen Jones (4-0) each have four B1G doubles victories.
- Overall, Cantos Siemers and Boulais lead the Buckeyes with 13 singles wins in dual play each, with Ratliff third with 11 and Allen fourth with 10.
- Cantos Siemers is first with 28 overall singles victories as well. Ratliff is second with 21, followed by Lucia Marzal with 18 and Boulais with 16.
- In doubles dual matches, Cantos Siemers has a team-best 11 victories and Ratliff has recorded 10, with Marzal and Boulais each part of nine.
- Ohio State has won the doubles point in seven of its last nine matches.
- In singles, Ohio State has compiled a 14-4 record on court two and is 12-4 on courts one and four. Court six has contributed 10 wins, court three nine and court five seven.
The Schedule Ahead
- The regular season ends with matches at home against Maryland at 6 p.m. April 22 and Rutgers at noon April 24.
